I have reactive hypoglycemia. I'm not diabetic and don't want to be. It is kind of pre-diabetes thing. I can only have 30 grams of carbs per meal and 18 grams of carbs per snack along with protein which I have to have 3 snacks per day. It's tough because even green bean have carbs. Does anyone have this and if so, what are some meals that you eat that stay within that carb range?

Check out meal ideas from the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet both are low carbs. I personally prefer the South Beach plan. I like the recipes and frozen dinners better. Are you on any medication as a result of ur diagnosis?

e beginning it is tough bc u learn how so many foods that u thought r healthy have carbs and carbs=sugar. For example apples are carb filled but a small apple with peanut butter is much healthier. Switching from white bread/pasta to whole grain

Try not 2 panic make gradual changes. Dont go cold turkey on the carbs it can make u irritable...lol.

Thanks Cupcaker35! No medications. I was on Metformin (sp) but took myself off because of cost and because I am a bad pill-taker and didn't remember to take it half of the time. I need to be on this site daily and track everything, lose weight and regulate it that way instead of taking pills. The problem is, is that when I misbehave I don't always have a reaction so I think, "it's not so bad" and then another time I will have a small reaction, but nothing like the first time when it sent to me to the ER and found out thru testing that I have it. Normally, I can't really tell anything is going on, so I ignore it. Not good because I have a feeling it will sneak up on me.

I'm reactive-hypoglycaemic and find a low carb diet works extremely well for my blood sugars. I don't crash anymore. I've just been tracking my carbs on mfp, but following Atkins or south beach would work too. You'll know if your body likes it or not :)

I have hyperinsulinemia (high insulin levels) which causes chronic hypoglycemia.

    Here are some suggestions:

Breakfast: 3 egg omelette with onion, broccoli, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese

    Snack: 1 oz macadamia nuts

Lunch: 5-6 oz lean meat, 4 slices pre-cut cheddar cheese, blueberries, strawberries, asparagus

Snack: PB2 on 2 rice cakes

Dinner: 6 oz salmon, green beans drizzled with olive oil and garlic, Greek kale salad

    Snack: Slim Jim

That had the opposite reaction with me. I found that going too low on carbs actually triggered episodes.

I've found that I do better now that I've upped my protein intake, but I still eat a good amount of carbs.

The snack with the rice cakes WAY surpasses the 18 gram carb limit, as do all the berries in the proposed lunch.

    @RadRac01 No it doesn't.

Two plain rice cakes have 14 grams of carbs.

She is allowed to have 18 grams of carbs per snack. And 30 grams of carbs per meal. 50 grams of blueberries have 7 grams of carbs and 50 grams of strawberries have 3 g.

None of my suggestions go over 18 or 30 grams :)

have you found radiant recovery on the net ? They will try and sell you stuff but they have a load of information about it and the site changed my life :-) My experience is that I can eat carbs as long as they are complex and preferably in a natural state (the digestion has to break the cell walls down which reduces the hit. Sugar stuffs me completely. Damping the carb with protein and fat really helps as well and just having carbs by themselves, especially if they have a relatively high GI really hurts me. I would strongly suggest having a look at the radiant recovery site though. good luck
