Joy, do you use a food scale? Are you eating back your exercise calories? How long has it been?

    My MFP primer:

Buy a food scale, weigh and log everything.

Do cardio if you want, and if you do, only eat back 50% of your calories (if you are losing faster than expected after logging for a few weeks, then up the % you eat back). Lift weights and hit your protein goal to help maintain muscle mass while losing.

Cheat meals that take you over maintenance will sabotage your efforts. Log the cheat meals too (falls under the 'log everything' rule).

Eat anything you want in moderation, keeping in mind that your diet will be easier to stick with if you chose foods that make it easier to stay under your calories without feeling hungry.

Also it would be a good idea to read some of the best forum posts such as:

How long have you been at this and how long have you been gaining? Are you counting calories, and how do you determine how much you're eating? Do you eat back your exercise calories, and if so how much?

Are you using a scale to weigh your food properly? If you are not in a caloric deficit you will not lose weight. I suggest you invest in a food scale and read this post.

    Gaining=eating surplus

So you probably eat more than you think

Do you weigh ALL your food and dont use cups and or serving sizes?

How much have you gained and over what period of time? It could be water retention from the increase in exercise. It could be that you're eating more than you realize (either through small logging errors that add up or eating back more exercise calories than you burn or any number of other little things that add up through the day). More information might help us narrow down what's happening.

Probably nothing is wrong. If you've just started all this your body is probably just storing water. Give it a week or two to adjust and you should start losing, provided you are keeping a calorie deficit.

Are you weighing everything? In the beginning I didn't weigh anything and I was losing.... but then the weight loss showed way down, and I started weighing EVERYTHING and it makes all the difference.

You probably aren't eating enough calories to support that amount of exercise. Under eating doesn't support weight loss.

Under eating will not cause weight gain.

Did I miss where the OP came back to give us any idea how much they're eating or how long they've been stalled? I don't know how you can come to that conclusion with so little information.

If she were undereating, she'd be losing fat/muscle

Thats exactly what it supports. Not always to the good, but under eating will definitely cause weight loss.

for once, I'm surprised (besides the under eating comment) that nobody said its because muscle weighs more than fat lmfao. It's a relief to not see that being posted but...

OP. You probably aren't being accurate at all and 5 days at the gym doesn't mean jack *kitten* if you aren't pushing yourself when you're there but diet is key to weight loss, exercising just helps the process

I can't tell you how much it aggravates me to see that not following the program is the first answer. I've been doing MFP for 2 weeks and have gained 5 lbs. My calories are 1420/day and I almost never go over 1500 and have never gone under 1400. I drink my water and I've been walking in the mornings. I weigh and measure all my food and eat lean proteins, fruits and veggies for the most part. I am following the requirements of WW as far as dairys and oils. The days I inch toward 1500 are the days I use my exercise calories. Please don't even suggest that I am eating more than I think I am, not tracking honestly, or in any other way not following the program.

If you're gaining weight, you're eating more than you're burning, unless it's temporary retention due to new exercise programs, sodium, ToM etc. that will go away with time.

The vast majority of the time when people post these things, that is the case: they don't weigh their food, choose inaccurate entries, don't log meals/days, miscalculate their exercise calories.

That being said, two weeks could easily be water retention from increased exercise, sodium intake, or hormones (especially if you still have your monthly cycle)...and since the OP has yet to come back to say how long it's been, that could be the case. If it continues for 2-4 more weeks, then it's time to reevaluate your logging and see if anything can be tightened up. If it still continues with 100% logging accuracy, then it's suggested to visit a doctor to see if there is something that is messing with the metabolism so they aren't burning as much as they should.

I do not add salt to my food. I'm post menopausal, and I've been to the doctor. I walk 15 minutes in the morning before I go to work. So I've covered all those bases. All the doctors say is that my thyroid levels are good, that I should be losing weight, and to increase my activity. well DUH! But back to my original point, I hate being told that I am not following program when I could be a poster child except for one thing....I'm not losing weight.

There's no explanation for not losing weight over the long term except that you're not in a caloric deficit, except, maybe recomp. However much you hate that.

You may be a 'poster child' for this program, but you have no patience. It's only been two weeks. And if you just started new exercise, your sore muscles may be holding onto water. It kinda needs to be a month or more before you can really see anything happening properly.

I agree that two weeks isn't long enough and you need to be more patient, but:

How are you calculating your exercise calories?

Maybe open your diary. I know, I know, you're doing everything perfectly. Just humor us and let us take a look.

Nobody's accusing you of not following your program or of deliberately doing anything wrong. MFP has a food database that allows users to add/change entries, and it's really easy to choose incorrect entries without knowing it. There are a TON of tips and tricks that will help you out, but we're not sure which ones would be helpful to you just yet. We're trying to figure out where you're having trouble so we can help. Could you please open your diary, even just for a little while? We'll probably be able to see what's going on very quickly if we can see what you've been logging.

Edit: Never mind, I totally didn't notice that you weren't the OP! If you start your own thread, people can try to help you more specifically.

The OP however could be experiencing her TOM. It is a bit confusing trying to address two different peoples concerns especially when the two of you have different circumstances.

The OP might not weigh her food and I don't think anyone on here told your that you were not following the program. So I am not sure why you are so upset with us.

It has literally become my biggest pet peeve. Why post and never return?! I'm literally shocked when the OP replies within 15 minutes.
