Biggest Loser Finale

I like lots of people have watched the Biggest Loser and its pretty amazing how these people lose weight. Most of it is hard work but at the beginning and the end I think their is some funny business.
In week 20 Here are the weigh-ins
Olivia weighed 153, then lost 4 pounds to make the finale at 149 she weighed in at the finale at 132 a week later.
Irene weighed 147 then lost 3 pounds to make the Finale at 144, she weighed in at the finale at 139 a week later.
Hannah Weighed 150 , she lost 4 pounds to make the finale at 146, she weighed in at the finale at 128 a week later.
Jay Weighed 246 he lost 4 pounds to 242 to , at the Finale he weighed 219 pounds at the finale a week later.
So are we to believe that in just a week that
Olivia lost 17 pounds
Irene 5
Hannah - 18
Jay 23 pounds
I don't think so !
Irene's numbers are the only ones who seems realistic. The rest of them haven't seen those kind of numbers in 2 or 3 weeks combined. I would say that there is at least 2-3 week gap between the end of taping and the finale.
Either that or they took some serious diuretics to suck all the water out of their system.
Remember this is a made for television show, our weight loss journey will be different.

it's not the next week, they don't claim it's the next week, it's like 6 or 8 weeks later or something like that.0
-
They didn't highlight that gap this season as much as last, but they are supposed to go home and "get used to their new lives". They want to make sure they can take what they learned and be successful at home. There is at least a couple weeks between going home and the finale!0

glad you bring up the biggest loser...i'm a huge fan and so proud of all them! but derails the normal joes like us when i don't see more than 2 lbs in any given week! T.V rocks!0

I am pretty sure it is 4 weeks later...
But they never claim that it is one week later. I think they talk about it in the second last episode when Hannah won the gym that it was a month before the finale0 -
According to a previous contestant, even the weekly weigh-ins are more like 2 weeks apart in some cases. But the finale is around 6 weeks after they go home the last time. I didnt much like the sisters, but I think Hannah got humble as she lost the weight. I do think that Olivia will keep it off... she has the obsessive personality. Hannah or Irene needed the win to give them the motivation to carry on... Hopefully they will anyway.0

I always thought it was a couple of months between the last show and the finale! But regardless, their transformations are amazing!!! I love the show because it's based on the good old fashioned theory of diet and exercise. Hate to see it come to a close, and sure will miss Jillian next year.0

personally, I'm a fan of the stories, but I STILL think they don't stress enough the fact that these people are in extremely special situations and their weight loss is neither the average nor is it to be expected under every day life conditions. I know they write a blurb at the end in big black and white, but that's not good enough IMHO. They should take a minute and have either the contestants or better yet the trainers, even better, that doctor they have all the time, come on and explain the extreme measures that these people take. And WHY they can take them in relative safety. It's important that people know that unless you are under doctor's supervision, and able to work out 6 to 8 hours a day, and that there's no way joe schmoe is going to be able to lose 15 or 20 or 30 lbs in a week, no matter how big they start out. And that these people are being monitored and given the correct foods to choose from. Which doesn't eliminate the possibility of making bad choices, but it limits it.
this is ESPECIALLY true for when they near the end and are still losing 2 and 3 and 4 lbs a week. At this point they are being essentially unhealthy IMHO. And that's because this is a game with a prize at the end. Regular people trying to lose weight shouldn't be thinking this way, they should be ramping DOWN their weight loss attempts in order to gradually ease their way into maintenance. Similar to slowing down your car at a red light instead of driving right up to it at 30 mph and slamming on the breaks 5 feet from it.0 -

I heard Jillian will be on the daytime talkshow "The Doctors"0 -
I agree with you. "Normal" people in no way should expect the same results within the same time period. Its fun to watch them change and transform, but in "real life", its a different story and I think you right, at the end of each show, someone should speak the words about the precautions they take on the show and the monitoring they do, so that "we" won't expect the same results, but hope we can attain them within our own time.0

I have heard that they dehydrate the contestants before weigh-in and almost push too hard. I think, in some ways it is inspirational and I like the fact that they try to get to the root of the issues that caused them to gain so much weight in the first place. That in itself is a lesson to us all. Usually there is a reason. I am disappointed in the amount of the contestants that have put back their weight after going through so much.... that is real life too.... I often cheer on the contestants that I feel will have the most success afterwards.
Having said that, while I was disappointed in hearing how they alter the competition... ie... the dehydration, and the 2 weeks in between weigh-ins instead of the lead to believe 1 week... I think it is a good show... and I think that ultimately it has helped people on and off the show, both with the pay it forward, and pound for pound challenges and the huge wave of biggest loser competitions in the workforce!
Julian was very good at the psyche aspect of the program... Bob is getting better with this... we shall see if it can continue... that is key!0 -
Kaylee who I frankly can't stand, has already gained 15 pounds back from the time she went home in week 17 to the finale.
The others have all lost or maintained their weight. I thought the sisters Hannah and Olivia looked incredibly thin, they lost almost 50 % of their body weight, which is what it seems to take to win this game.0 -

Jillian has said it a lot through the years (not so much this season) how much exercise, etc they do and that it's not realistic for us to think we can do it like that we do while living our lives. Their big advantage is they get an opportunity to only focus on themselves, no kids, spouse, work, etc. I love the show for the motivation and transformations.0

THIS THIS THIS.
I love the show and am incredibly inspired by the transformations (once a week I push myself like crazy in my own silly version of a "last chance workout"), but I never watch it without sitting there thinking, "Yeah, I would whip my butt into shape too if I had 6-8 hours a day to work out and people paying for my groceries..."0 -
I had the same thoughts about Kaylee! When I watched her "See how the eliminated player looks today" clip, i was already disappointed as it seemed she was already giving up. They kept talking about her drive and determination, and how she was a "fighter" but frankly, I never saw it. I was sad to see she gained but not at all surprised.0

My husband and I totally KNEW that Kaylee would gain the weight back. If she can't even keep it off for the 2-3 months between when she was sent home and the finale, she'll never be successful.
I also figured...she probably gained even MORE, and then about a week or 2 before the finale, she totally freaked out and tried to lose as much as possible.
I don't know if they were contractually obligated to come to the finale, but if I were her, I would have been too embarrassed to show my face at the finale.
At that point in her weight loss journey, they still were able to talk to their trainers if they needed too. Even on the finale, Brett said that he called his contestants on a regular basis to make sure they were doing all right. There were so many people who would have loved to go to the biggest loser and change their lives...it's a shame that Kaylee couldn't take it seriously.
I didn't like her at all throughout the entire season. She was always dramatic and playing games...trying to throw weigh-ins...and it just seemed like whenever she was at home or not on the ranch, she gained weight. Way to NOT learn ANYTHING from Brett and Cara! She had a HUGE support system, her father, her trainers and the other contestants who wanted to see her successful! She is even dating someone who was *almost* a biggest loser contestant himself...everyone around her has similar weight loss goals- she obviously didn't get the help she needed. I hope she is successful one day.0 -

I agree with this 100%. Also, that's one of the big reasons a lot of them have so much extra skin at the end. I really wish that Irene won... I liked her personality the best, and I think she is a super sweetheart who deserved the prize the most. Hopefully Olivia won't let it all go to her head.0 -
I never hear them talk about eating their EXERCISE calories back? What gives with that?0

eating your exercise calories back is specific to MyFitnessPal
it equates to creating a deficit that is large enough to see results yet small enough to keep you healthy. MFP has a different way to get you there, but the result is the same. You can't just walk up to any random trainer and ask "should I eat my exercise calories back?" they'll think you're nuts and say "NO YOU SHOULD NOT!" Because you didn't first explain that you're creating a deficit prior to any exercise, first you have to explain your methods, then you can seek responses on them.0 -
Where was rulon?0
-
I was wondering that too, why didn't Rulon come to the finale???0
-
In my opinion Kaylee was the Biggest Loser on the show, she had no drive or motivation, and I'll bet within a year she gains it all back !0

I don't think Rulon was allowed to attend the finale (or just didn't want to). He did just quit and leave the ranch. He lost 188 lbs. He is listed as a gym owner and a motivational speaker.
Alot of the contestants loose too much for the finale and then they find their right weight. I agree, alot of them do look kinda dehydrated.
I wish Jillian the Best of Luck, and will try to catch her on The Doctors when I can, but I'm not real interested in seeeing her replacement, Anna Kournikova. I'm not sure a pin-up girl/ tennis player can be a good trainer to help these contestants drop the pounds they need to shed.0 -
I think they all looked amazing besides kaylee already packin the pounds back on, the sisters looked great and i thought Sara n Jen looked really good I thought Courtney would've done better yet0
-
Totally agree about Kaylee. I was shocked to see some of the other at home contestants like Sarah. I read that Rulan was invited to the finally, but since he left on his own terms, he was no longer eligible for the at home prize. According to the reports, he never got back to them or they never got a hold of him.0

That sux I wanted to see wat he looks like now0
