Hi! Looking to start building muscle. Any tips?

Hey all, I'm Ashley, I'm 32, and I've recently lost about 50 lbs. I feel like I have about ten more to go, but I feel as though I've lost a lot of muscle tone. Does anyone have any tips for a beginner? Thanks so much!

Hi Ashley. Losing muscle is a common dilemma for people who lose a lot of weight fairly rapidly. It's usually the result of extensive calorie cutting. My suggestion would be for you to consult with an expert such as a certified personal trainer and/or nutritionist because they can tailor a regimen suited to you. Basically to add muscle you'll need to combine proper nutrition with resistance training. Most likely scenario is an increase in caloric intake with the right balance of fats, protein and carbs lots of water and at the right intervals. At same time focus on resistance training over cardio. That will burn more calories and most important, get energy from your fat stores rather than muscle. Hope that helps. Oscar.

Look into a lifting program. There are a number online that you can start for free. I use Stronglifts 5x5 myself. Lots of helpful info on the website, and a user-friendly free app that helps you track your workouts.
