Help!! I'm addicted to Soda pop! I drink at least 1 Coke a day. I can go about a month without soda and then when I stop 'dieting' I start up again. I know it's bad, but I include it in with my daily calorie goal, when I know I should be using those calories towards something with a better nutritional value. Does anyone have any suggestions, or replacements?

Nope...just support. :-) Soda is my vice. Diet soda...but soda none the less. Regular soda I can't enjoy because I know how long it takes to work it off, and for liquid I can't do it....chocolate is another story though. I do love my soda. I'm with you!

Water, Crystal Light, Mio, Vitamin Water Zero, Powerade Zero or Lifewater 0 are all better options than Soda and cam be counted as water.

Good Luck, I know it is hard, I was a Cafeine Free Diet Coke nut but none in about 6 months and don't miss it anymore.

Girl i was ADDICTED to soda. I would get up late at night just to get a fountain soda just to taste the burn. Wow sounds so weird actually typing this LOL Anyway I just found things to replace it. Vitamin water, water with lemon etc. I really had to push myself. It was soooo hard but now I am fine!

Replace it with water! I have a hard time with plain water some times, so I get crystal light (I get the to-go packs because it works well with the water bottle I always carry)

Allow yourself soda as a treat once in a while, like when you go to dinner (which shouldn't be too often) or a special party. The sugar in soda can really add up (and sugar like that can be bad in many ways beyond just the calories, if not taken in moderation).

I have downgraded to the 100 calorie cans of pepsi and have one a day.... that is a downgrade from two 32 oz to one 32 oz. Then from one 32 oz to a 20 oz bottle. Next a 20 oz bottle to a 12 oz can. It can be done but takes awhile.

I can't give you any magic remedy for breaking the habit... only that once that habit is broken, it's not so bad. I use to drink 3-4 Cokes or Pepsis (or Dr. Pepper, A&W, Mt. Dew... whatever) every single day... at least that many! I finally was able to switch the habit to diet sodas... not my favorite, but it was okay.

Now... since I've become a runner & I can literally tell a difference in my physical performance if I'm drinking SODA, as opposed to hydrating with WATER! I don't have proper energy OR endurance for long distance runs or high energy workouts. THAT was the epiphany that made me really cut most sodas out of my diet altogether!

It was one of the hardest habits for me to break... and when it came down to it, I did have to MAKE myself drink water. Now, that's just natural. I pack a refillable water bottle every day & fill it at least 3 times during my work day. (That's 6 servings!) THEN, I'll have some lemonade, tea or a diet soda at dinner, if I want (sometimes, I'll still drink water - if I'm planning on have a glass or two of wine, etc.) That way, I'm getting proper hydration, without completely giving up the "flavors" that I like.

I know... not much help huh?? LoL! Hang in there honey!! :drinker:

OH! Walmart (and Meijer... not sure if you have Meijer in your area...) have carbonated Zero Calorie water... they taste like Sprite honestly, with a hint of different fruit (grape, lime, orange, etc) They are GREAT too!! We buy those... but I still consider them diet sodas, even though they're labeled as "Water". Give 'em a try! They're yummy!! (And they have that carbonated burn too!!) LoL!

I Was a Coke Zero addict, I could not tell you how many I would have in 1 day. But I have been off it for over a month now and I literally went cold turkey.

    1) its all useless chemicals that I decided I didnt need to be drinking
    2) once I went off it, I had a 3 lb weight loss the first week alone. that was the only thing I did different that week.
    3) I feel a lot better since I gave it up.

However, saying all of that, does that mean I will never have another one again?? Doubt that, but who knows. I am in a competition with myself to see how long I can hold out. Oddly though, I have not missed it at all. Next time I decide to have one (going to the movies for example, I may have to still get my GI-normous popcorn and mini keg of Coke Zero at the snack bar). I figure one of two things will happen: I will either be disgusted by the taste or I will go "WOW have I missed you!"

You said you have 1/day?? I dont see that as a big issue really.

If you love soda opt for diet instead. Yes it does taste different and it does take time to get used to it, but eventually you will.
I like Crystal Light once in awhile, or a diet cherry coke zero ( have dt soda on the weekends). However, the majority of the time I drink water.

Ya, the 1/day is a major cut back. Growing up I didn't have guidance on what to drink. I would buy one of those huge mugs from 7 eleven that are about 52oz and drink that all day. Now, I try to only drink 1 Coke/day but i still feel like it's just as bad as having a 52oz because I'm giving in to the temptation. I'm going to try to give up again cold turkey and see how long I can hold out. A month has been the longest I've been able to go so far.

I am 2 weeks off of cold turkey stoppage of Redbull. At least 2 and sometimes 3 a day. The 1st few days were killer headaches and such but I am actually feeling better without it. So for me thats a minimum of 360 calories gone. WHOOHOO I figure for me thats that much closer to my goals

I never was a pop lover, but I used to loooove juice before I changed my eating habits so I can relate to you. I no longer crave juice anymore and only have it when I have a cold (OJ); but even then the taste doesn't give me a "high" like it used to. LOL My best advice is to up your water intake every single day. I started out stopping juice, but only drinking 5-7 glasses of water for the first few weeks. I still craved the juice. Then, I started drinking a minimum of 8 glasses everyday and then my desire for juice lessened a lot. Now, I drink anywhere from 10-15 cups of water a day (most days) and never less than 8 cups and now juice is no longer on my radar. I don't care for it and I feel weird if I don't have water all day. On the odd day, I'll have a can of sugar free energy drink, but other than that, all water. It's all I desire.

Keep in mind, I was the type of person who hated water and laughed at people who drank it constantly, just a few months ago. So if I can change, I'm sure you can. :)

I drink low sodium club soda. It's just water with fizz. Add a little lemon.
