missed one day in my 50 something streak

I was on a 150 day streak from when I first started back on my MFP journey earlier this year. I was away camping over the weekend with no signal to log and lost it. I had been so proud of it but it means I'm now motivated to beat 150 days!!0

I do the exact same thing. IMHO, counting calories already borders on obsessive-compulsive behavior so why add yet another thing to have anxiety over? I don't need a silly website counter to feel good about my wellness journey. If it helps you stay motivated, that's great, but recognize it for what it is: a crutch. What would you do if MFP was down for a day? a week? a month? forever?0 -
I am happy that I got my days for logging reset! Funny thing is I thought it was 50 something, but went back and looked at the calendar and I had been logging for 69 days. "Technically" logging in for me was that I tracked my food for the day but wrote it in the next day so I was still accountable.
It is all about accountability for me. Tracking the food, looking back to see what I ate and to keep me within my calories.
It does help me and make me proud that I have been following a program.
And yes, it is a life style change but any "pat on the back" I can get I'll take. Encourages me.0 -
I like the streak because when someone asks how much I've lost and how long it took, I can just open mfp and say "x lbs in x days." Personally, I don't see how anyone could miss a day of logging in with forums like these.0

Mine were due to power outages and no internet, not forgetting to log. It's one thing to forget to log in and something different when you can't.0 -

being in the remote wilderness with no internet access...or on a southern island with spotty access...
we all have our reasons....funny thing is that unless it's down south I prelog I just don't keep my streak.0 -

Since you get "credit" and your streak continues just for logging on, (i.e., just for showing up) and not for actually logging your food, I don't really see the point of the streak system at all anymore.
If logging into this app everyday, even though you don't use it to track your food, helps you stay on track with your goals, that's great. I mean that sincerely. And I guess to the extent that it keeps people mindful of their goals just to log in, I can see that it would be at least a small positive.
I can't help but feel that the way it's set up (i.e., get the "reward" of a big number on your streak by logging in, not by tracking your food or your exercise or anything that seems more directly constructive), it's really about generating page views for MFP. Which is fine. I recognize that I am MFP's product, not its customer, but it means that I no longer get the warm fuzzies or the pleasure center stimulation or whatever from seeing a big number on my "streak."
Actually, I think I have a better understanding of my role as MFP's "product" than UnderArmour does, with its new approach to monetizing the users and refusing technical support (or even the ability to view the technical support forums) to nonpaying users. If you make the experience crappy enough to drive away the nonpaying users -- who, in fact, are not just the product but by providing free content on the forums are actually part of the service--you're on a downward spiral to destroy the entire business model. I just don't believe in the Internet economy as it has evolved so far and appears to be evolving in the near future you can expect to make up for the loss of nonpaying eyeballs for advertisers by adding premium users who are willing to pay substantially for the service.0 -
I've had my streak "reset" once. I was 5 days away from 90 and I realized I had only been logging in for that silly number to go up, but I had been logging food for only 25 days. So I reset it to 25. Now I see my progress and it feels real. If I lose this streak, and it was because I didn't log on. I'll leave it be.0
