Hip pain while walking

Yesterday, I did bodyweight resistance and a bit of light weights, and stationary cycling.
Today, I have pain in my right hip It's kind of stingy right in the middle of the joint when I use it (walk).
Why would this be? That is the one joint I haven't had problems with so far
I just did box squats (with light weight), hip thrusts, reverse lunges, back extension, and leg curls (some weight but not tons).
I have OA in other joints and am prone to tendon problems. 39 F.
Avoid workouts today, right?
(I am hoping this is just a temporary thing... please please let it just be nothing...)

rest, possibly nsaids, check with your dr. it could just be that it was irritated from the workout, or a nerve got irritated.
you could try a bengay or something along those lines0 -

Thanks Rest is a good idea... I hope you're right and it is just irritated...
I do have a topical but never use it (I don't get how is it supposed to get into the place it hurts?) but yeah I can try it. Will wait a few days before bothering with the doctor to see if it calms down.
Man, though, I'm sick of little things like this happening with almost no stimulus, and even more so of being freaked out about them possibly turning into bigger things, which they sometimes do
I wonder if it was the cycling??0 -
Maybe trochanteric busitis? I have it and it is bursitis in the hp - bursitis is when these pockets of fluid protectng your bones get inflamed. The reason the hip one is painful is because a tendon rubs over it making it worse.
(This is what the doctor told me when I went thinking i had arthiritis after a particularly bad episode where i could not walk it was so painful).
In the first instance he reccomended ibuprofen, putting ice on and rest. This does help, in fact usually just resting it, after a good nights sleep its ok the next day.
Anecdotally - I have also found a herbal remedy that seems to be doing the trick. This may or may not be to your taste but it seeing as I havent had a single bout for four years (im 40 and suffered since probably my late teens) since i found a regular gardener.0 -
Ah, I suppose that's a possibility. Thank you for your thoughts
I have no faith in my doctor making that determination, though, if that's what it is. She's not really that great at MSK stuff, just sends me for X-rays for any kind of joint pain. Makes sense to give it a rest and see what happens, though, thank you.
I'm all ears to anything that works for anyone, why not? What kind of herb is it? (Is it a legal herb ? Actually don't answer that question if it isn't )0 -
You didn't mention anything about stretching. Your piriformis muscle tests on top of your sciatic nerve, and if it's too tight, it can cause all sorts of pain. Same goes for all the hip stabilizing muscles. You could Google "beginners yoga hip openers" and find some useful stretches. You have to do them consistently to feel the benefits. My squats also feel easier since I incorporated my own routine! I've been diagnosed with bursitis from too much time spent in hospital beds, and my hip ran into a moving car and took off their side view mirror several years back.0

I'll have a look, thank you! I've been doing some hip strengthening stuff, but no flexibility/stretching, because I'm hypermobile. My physiotherapist did suggest I roll out my IT band, but I can never do it right I'll try some stretches for this, though, maybe it'll help
Sorry you went through that, it sounds horrible. But glad you came out the other side to squat0 -

If you're having trouble, ask again! Practice in front of your pt, so they can help you. I bet they'll be much happier showing you again than seeing you give up and live in pain. It's their job and you owe it to yourself! You'll probably want to talk to them before taking my advice, too, just to be on the safe side. (And, thank you. This has been an interesting life so far!)0 -

That's a good idea. We spend a lot of time on some special massage, so there's not tons left to practice exercises, but absolutely, I should ask again. (I also kind of dislike doing it, which is maybe why I've been less proactive about that particular exercise ) At a certain point, though, you can't afford not to be completely vigilant about body maintenance/tuneups. The last thing I want is to get (another) crazy compensation-related thing and find myself with another long-term problem. (I have Lots of tendon things.)
You have a great attitude. I can see why you've recovered so well0 -
Now my right adductor hurts when I use it...0

Ok I know I should know better... but I go through this every time. It's ok to do stuff that doesn't hurt, correct?0
