Seriously now we are outing members of the lgbt community? Bad enough we bash each other to death and insult each over the constant debate of cico, clean eating, and the evil sugar industry....but MFP this has gone to far....
We have taken our brash attitudes and "tough love" to a whole other planet with this one....
Shame on us....shame on us all.....

This should be totally unacceptable. Maybe you need to notify an administrator. That is totally cruel and should not be allowed. I believe the reason MFP was created so we can support each other to achieve our common goal which is to live a healthier lifestyle not to be shamed, ridiculed or bullied by anyone.0

So because of one person's actions, we're all responsible?
I actually would not consider outing someone as being a meanie. It goes beyond that.
With that being said, the people involved should contact forum moderators and not air it all out in the open for the world to see (unless they really want to, which I mean, if you're not comfortable being 'out' kind of goes against that).
Invasion of privacy/stalking/whatever is a serious issue and should be taken to the proper channels/people. But because of 1 person's actions doesn't mean the rest of us say/act like that. Don't shame us all when we as a community haven't done anything.0 -

The person in question is behind bars on her profile pic. The mods took care of it yesterday. Case closed.0

OMG, another "people are so mean" thread. Honestly, it's the internet, not everyone is nice. NEXT!0

I always love the argument how being on the internet gives one the right to do crappy things to people and we ought not ridicule them for it because it's the internet. I think we ought to definitely teach them that their actions have consequences, even here, because their actions certainly might have hurt someone in real life. What if the person were not out and this is the way a lot of their family and friends learned about it? Rather than the person getting to tell their loved ones in their own time and in their own words. Now they've been robbed of that experience. Treat others exactly how you would treat them in real life and the community should respond the exact way they would if a person was saying those things in real life. When someone outs a friend of mine before they're ready, I get angry and inform them that what they did was not a good thing, and if they persist then they do deserve to get shamed. The entire community does not, as I believe we are, in general, a good set of people all working towards a common goal who come here looking for solidarity and a safe space to discuss things we are insecure about. This is why if someone's privacy was jeopardized, we -ought- to be offended for them and make sure the person doing the outing is moderated from doing it in the future. In any case, good on you MFP moderators for shutting down that sort of behavior.0

THIS YES! Well said!0 -
And now people go scurrying about to find out what thread you're talking about. When they find it, they can discover that the "outing" was simply a case of a member using the same screen name here as on another site where they outed themselves.
It's very simple ... if you put something into the public domain, you are to blame if others read it.0 -
Wow a thread basically started by me questioning ONE POSTER. OP see caps. ONE POSTER. Or are we not talking about that one thread with the compare my calves?0
-
I didnt read the other original thread nor do i care enough to find it, but the person who was outed seemed to handle it with grace and bravery . It doesn't justify what the other member said or did though and i believe the mods are aware of the situation. Nobody should be treated unfairly, especially in those circumstances.0
