Feeling discouraged

I am feeling so discouraged this morning. I don't want to move from my bed to get my walk in. I have been working very hard at this but this week the scale is moving in the wrong direction.

Hope you feel better. I too have been feeling so discouraged and depressed about my weight. I find it so hard to get back on track and overeating due to the stress of it :(

May I ask why you don't track sodium? High sodium levels can show an increase in water weight on the scale.

Also, to sbove, I might suggest adding additional water to your diet. I find that after 3 days, my weight starts to show a drop again. I havd added 2 more bottles of water a day and it really helps!

i agree I would track sodium over Fiber its so important for females to stay under 2000mg of sodium otherwise you could be eatting really healthy but the sodium is forcing you to retain alot of water

I say, just hang in there! Weight fluctuates....like the stock market, you have to hang in and plan for the long term. Just make sure the general trend is in the right direction. I learned about an app on these message boards called Libre. It's free and you can enter your weight and it calculates a trend line. I find it super helpful to track when there are a lot of fluctuations. Good luck!

It is discouraging, but don't you want to win?
Just remember why you are doing this. You can do it!

If OP has no medical issues I would track sodium over sugar.

I don't track my water but I do drink 5-6 24 ounce bottles a day plus usually at least 2 16 ounce bottles on my walk. I will start tracking sodium too. I have chronic issues with not being able to poop for up to 6 weeks at a time. (I know that sounds completely unbelievable and if I didn't live it I wouldn't believe it either) I am sure that is part of the issue but I can't fix that and I don't want that to be what keeps me from losing weight.

Well, that can be part of it. You might be actually losing the weight, but it's not coming off on the scale, it's just sitting in your intestines. I have similar issues, although not as severe, and I can certainly see the weight even creep up when "nothing's happening" and then it drops away with the resolution.

Wow do you see a doctor for that? All that waste staying inside of your body. I would be getting help after a week of no bowel movements.

FAT LOSE TO ADDED MUSCLE MASS...WILL GAIN WEIGHT. GO BY BODY MEASUREMENTS INSTEAD OR IN ADDITION TO TRACKING WEIGHT LOSS. MUSCLE MASS WEIGHS A LOT MORE THAN FAT. TIDBIT FROM MY DIETICIAN...EVERY POUND LOST WILL INCREASE METABOLISM BY 50 CALORIES A DAY...

I do see a doctor but they don't really know how to treat me. There was one med that worked but it affected my heart to the point I spent 5 days in the hospital and almost ended up with a pacemaker. Once I stopped the med my heart is fine.

Weight loss is not linear. It's a concept you need to internalize or you'll find yourself riding the emotional roller coaster every morning. This gets even more apparent as you have less and less to lose. Some days your weight will go down, some it will stay the same and some it will even go up. As long as the overall trend is downward, you're doing fine.

Our bodies are constantly retaining and shedding water in response to hormonal fluctuations, strenuous exercise or our sodium/potassium balance. If you have already lost some weight you need to be sure to adjust your calorie goal (if MFP hasn't done it automatically) because as you get smaller your daily calorie burn will decrease and you'll need to eat less to continue to lose.

    Huh?

A pound is a pound no matter what you use. The volume or space it takes up changes. 1 pound of fat and 1 pound of muscle is the same weight 1 pound. But the space that pound take up ( volume or space it takes up) is different. Don't worry about weight so much. Take your measurements instead. You'll also feel better not weighing yourself all the time. Good luck

    I was talking about this
EVERY POUND LOST WILL INCREASE METABOLISM BY 50 CALORIES A DAY

That is incorrect. Also a pound of muscle does not burn 50 calories a day from what I research.

I know it seems horrible now - but one week is such a short amount of time in the whole weight loss game. So many things can make it seem like we're gaining weight when we step on the scale. Don't give up! You've got this, and you'll make it!
