Calories burned discrepancies?

So what's that about? I'm a bit lighter, we've both chosen from the database, not added an exercise-makes no sense to me

*shrugs* As you noted, it asks for both weight and duration. It made your burn rate (calorie per minute) 2.4~ higher than hers. The general feedback on the exercise database is that it is not very accurate...0

Consistently inaccurate is one thing, but seemingly just making it up as it goes along...?0

for starters you are comparing 120 minutes of gardening to 65 minutes...for starters.0 -
Age will also make a difference in how many calories one burns.0

Obviously! But half mine is significantly more than hers in calories while equal in time. As ohmscheeks worked out, a rate of 2.4x higher calories for me. Makes me cautious of using calories from exercise if it can be that way off.
She is older than me, is that more or fewer calories?0 -
The simplest explanation that comes to my mind is that she changed the number, based on a heart rate monitor (which would not be accurate for gardening, but many people don't know that) or an activity monitor like a FitBit.
After all, you can always change the number that the database generates. If I use MFP's database to enter hiking, I usually decrease its number by about 40%, because it gives ridiculously high estimates for hiking.0 -
When I look at that for me I get the following:
Gardening General 120 mins:541
Gardening General 65 mins: 293
Gardening General 60 mins: 270...
I am 5 ft 7 and 149lbs...
So for 5mins I get 23 calories...
you need to compare apples to apples...0 -

I believe one burns fewer calories as one gets older.

No, it's only 1.7x.
How much is "a bit" lighter?
