I have been eating less carbs yet more healthy fat like nuts to loose weight - yet now loosing very slowly. Want to see those 8 pack abs ! Do u I should go back to more carbs? Do u think I should change the mpf to 40% protein, 30% carb 30% , 30% fat. I'm at my last 20 lb loss and frustrated with the slow process to weight loss - been stuck at this weight for 8-9 months even though under calorie goal and exercise run/crossfit/bike/swim. Any suggestions appreciated.

Weight loss comes from a caloric deficit. Doesn't matter what you eat, whether it's high carb or low carb etc.
It really depends on personal preference and medical issues. I know there are some medical issues which require low carbing, and some people just prefer eating less carbs altogether.

if you haven't lost weight for 8-9 months then you're eating at maintenance, you need to decrease cals, move more or both. Dropping or increase carbs won't make any difference if your overall calorie intake stays the same.0
-
How are you logging? Are you weighing everything with a scale and measuring (with cups) liquids only? You are likely eating at or very close to maintenance if you haven't lost in 8-9 months. Even with a small defecit, you should have seen a little movement in 8-9 months.0

Most likely you're eating more than you think. If you don't have one, invest in a food scale to help you see how much you're eating.0

I reviewed a lot of info and it says to up protein. I need to do something to get my system moving agaain . Mpf sets automatically to 50% carb, 20% protein, and 30% fat. I will try increase and do 30 c , 40 p, 30 f . Let me know what u think0

In terms of weight loss, it doesn't matter what the macros are.
If you're maintaining on 2000 calories of 50/20/30, you're not going to lose weight on 2000 calories of 30/40/30.

The research I have read recently all refers to eating mainly healthy animal fats - wild oily fish, free range eggs, grass fed animals for dairy and meat - and minimal fats from vegetables (even the high omega-3 options).
Have you tried increasing foods high in dietary fibre (grains, pulses, vegetables, fruit) - a search will help you find the research claiming the weight loss benefits of dietary fibre.0 -

Losing BFP is the only real way to get the abs to appear. I am not sure if you're over eating but it looks like you're up in age, and sadly as we get older it's harder to gain muscle and our hormones act different. I'd make sure you're getting enough healthy fats to promotes hormones, then have your adrenaline hormone and testosterone levels checked as well as estrogen.
You're going to get a lot of you must not be weighing your food right or something like that, but if your hormones are shot or low you're spinning your wheels, since your body won't be able to adequately absorb nutrients, if there is a problem...
This is the first thing people should do when trying to lose weight or gain weight. If that comes back alright, then check out your maintenance calories, and how active you think you're, they both could be off. You might need to reefed your body more food for a few days to trick it, then lower the calories again.
Last, make sure you get at least 7 hours of sleep, and try to lower stress. Good luck!

Deficit equals weight loss. The rest is about how you feel while you do it. Fats, fiber and proteins will keep you full longer. Protein helps build muscles after workout, carbs (and fats far enough in advance) help you get energy for workout. At the end of the day six pack is about body fat %. You can be 125 with a 6 pack or 250 with a six pack as long as the fat % is small so six pack happens in the kitchen not the gym.0

I looked up a formula type web site and found that I have been under calorie by at least 600 calories a day most days and some days maybe even over a thousand calories under what I need. Is it possible that being low in calories has put my body in starvation mode and reduced its ability to let go of the fat?0

Stop looking and searching...Like posters above stated
You are NOT in a deficit. You eat more than you think
do you weigh all your food on a food scale ( and dont use cups and spoons or serving sizes they can be way off)
So do you weigh your food?0 -

1 Buy a food a scale,
2 Be exact with logging, and
3 Eat at the calorie deficit you and MFP have set up.
That is how you will lose weight. Wishing you much success.0 -
I follow a lower carb diet
I eat less than I burn off
I add exercise
I lost over 125 pounds
Yeah it works. It all works together though.

No, not really. As you weigh less you need less to (for example) climb the stairs. Your body also tends to use a bit less energy in response to reduced intake.
Try to take out a couple of hundred calories a day from what you do now and you should see a change - if maintaining you should start to lose.

Yes I do weigh and measure everything. The funny part is when I eat slightly more calories I tend to loose more weight. I also think my issue as mentioned earlier is I want to loose some of the layer of fat over the abs not so much as weight as I am pretty decent yet want to be able to see the abs. Has anyone tried the stuff from the scooby workshop ( a body building website that helps figure out calories and macro percentages)? At this point as mentioned trying to get the inch of flab of the abdomen to be able to see the abs below.0

One of the reasons I think I'm under eating is that I am constantly doing a lot if exercise and not getting the calories back. As an example yesterday I di 3 hours and 20 minutes of intense interval training with crossfit type workout and biking. I had a heart rate monitor on and burned over 1300 cal according to the calibrated polar heart rate monitor. I list myself as slightly active on mfp goals- 2060 cal / d. When I changed to very active it says I should eat 2810 cal/d. I have do these type of workouts 5 days per week and I have a job where I am standing and walking for 9 hours a day on top of that with minor manual labor as well. So ultimately I likely put in the wrong stats and was under eating. I have only slightly increased cal to 2569 and will see what that does. I will also not be eating back exercise calories with this new calorie amount. What do you all think? Any experience with this specific issue?0

If you have not lost weight in 8 - 9 months you are eating at maintenance
now that is either due to not logging accurately your food intake or not logging accurately your exercise burns
you seem to be flailing around looking for reasons (excuses) when actually you're quite simply not eating fewer calories than you burn .. your body is telling you this no matter what calories you are putting in MFP
I see you are increasing your calories because you believe in starvation mode .. well you've already been told the truth on that
But good luck
there's nowt so odd as folk0 -
So u say that even if I eat under my basal metabolic rate the body will still let go of fat, or will it just consume its own muscle first?0
-
If you were to eat literally nothing you would primarily use fat for calorie supply with some protein catabolism to supply blood sugar via gluconeogenesis.
I frequently eat under my BMR, there's no evidence that it's an issue.0 -

with a closed diary we cant say your under eating.
You can be weighing wrong. Choosing the wrong entrees who knows....
Only fact is and this is for everybody...When you dont lose weight you eat the same amount calories as you burn
When you lose weight you eat less calories than you burn
When you gain weight you eat more than you burn
so pick the group that applies to you. And you have your answer.
This is for everybody and only affected by medical issues, and age, sex, etc...then it still applies but you lose slower with for example a thyroid issue.
But like i said nobody here knows what and how much your eating.

Heart rate monitors are only accurate for steady state cardio.
Weight loss is an equation. Science. Math. Stop looking for excuses. Tough love, but you're eating more than you think, period. When you stop trying to blame starvation mode and your macros, and face this fact, you'll lose weight.0 -

Yeah - I looked on the website too, which had some brosciencey front page that compared our bodies to cars and that we should change the oil in our cars at least every 3,000 miles. Doesn't make a lot of sense and I think he's just trying to get hits for his blog.0 -
