atouria - do you mean mats or mat bags? The only mat bag I've tried is the one on that web site. I like it because there is enough space for either my maduka or my regular mat - the mats can be folded or rolled, and I can fit my purse, a water bottle and a blanket in there as well.
In my classes, some people use a harness strap - looks like this:
http://www.amazon.com/YogaAccessories-Yoga-Mat-Harness-Strap/dp/B000MPC5WY/ref=sr_1_6?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1305589043&sr=1-6
The regular bags you see, that zip up - and you have to roll your mat, take a long time to get right.0 -
I want a mat bag. My issue is that I use my mat at home and at the yoga studio, so I don't just leave my mat in my car. The kids snatch it up when it's inside and take the mat one way, the rug the other, lol. Sometimes when it's time to head out, I realize it's not where I left it and I have to go on a hunt. By that time, I'm late and I walk into the studio with a crumpled mess in my hands, LOL.
I was thinking a bag could control the chaos a bit and at least deter the children while keeping the mat a little cleaner.0 -

Hey, I started back about a year ago and try to practice 3 - 4 times a week. I mix up my Vinyasa practice with swimming. This has been a tough year for us, yoga helps keep me centered physically and mentally.
Thanks to the practice I had a funny NSV a couple of weeks ago. I was on a 6 hour flight and was able to put my pillow on my knees put and put my head down to sleep. I comfortably slept all the way home. Very cool.

I do a Yoga DVD.
My favorite that I have tried this year is the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Yoga Workout DVD. It's awesome!
I get a good sweat going on and I can feel all my muscles at work. It's slow, easy to do, and easy to follow. They have a 25 minute segment and a 45 minute segment. I do either, depending how I feel, every other day (3 times a week).0 -

How accurate is the yoga on wii fit does anyone know?
The good bits w/wii yoga = anything that requires the use of the board is going to be helpful for your balance and centering, it won't really be able to tell if you are keeping your spine aligned front to back but it can tell if you waiver side to side, or in the case of downward dog if you are putting too much weight on your feet and it will correct you. It will also help you to know if you are wiggling so that as you stabalize you can tell that you are by the results.
The bad bits = it can't tell if your knees are in proper alignment. Anything that doesn't use the board is relying on you to keep proper alignment and balance. There is essentially no flow from movement to movement. No matter how well you are doing a posture, everytime you start a pose, it goes through the tutorial... not so good for keeping you warm.
What I want and have yet been able to find is true yoga on Kinect. The "yoga" on Your shape fitness evolved, is actuall tai chi w/some yoga thrown in. Good very gentle aerobics and methods for increasing range of motion in some areas, but not really the stretch, push lactic acid out of the muscles, kind of practice I was looking for.
Anybody know of any good Kinect Yoga to be had?0 -
Tried the 10 minute one. It is a little fast paced. When i think yoga i think slow and relaxing. i am going to try out the candlelight yoga one from crunch.0

I'm still kind of a noob, but I've been doing Hatha/Vinyasa classes 3 days a week since New Years, and loving what it does for me.
How many of you work out with yoga alone, and how many are combining it with other forms of cardio or strength training? I'm 52, not terribly athletic by nature, and trying to put together a fitness plan I can maintain long term - suggestions welcome.
I practice vinyasa and power(mix between bikram and vinyasa) 5 or 6 times a week in a traditional studio in addition to p90x.
I walked into a studio about a year and a half ago and found something that I'd been searching for my entire life. From the spirituality to the community I'm a yogi for life.

I have been doing Bikram for about 2 months & am in LOVE with it.
I had lower back surgery 7 yrs ago & did not follow any exercise stretching program after... so the tightness in the lower back spread & I was incredibly tight everywhere. Bikram is bringing my body back to life.. I can actually feel the toxins draining out (from decades of 6-8 cans of diet coke & junk food consumption) & am feeling stronger, more flexible everyday & the tightness is gradually going away.. leaving the body more relaxed & happy than it has been in a LONG time:)0 -
LOVE yoga! I haven't been doing yoga as regularly as I used to, but I just started doing P90X's Yoga DVD and I love it! My poor hubby even tried it and ended up just laying on the floor, lol. I think it can def help with your weight loss. I'd love to join a class, but we just don't have the funds or time right now, so it's DVDs for me!0

Yoga lover here! Started about 10 years ago with Iyengar - For anyone starting out, I feel that Iyengar should always be the base, and then you can build to other kinds of yoga from there. I've tried/practice Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and chakra yoga. Now I'm looking to try Kundalini!!0

NSV - I have been doing yoga off and on for the last few years but have only been consistent with my practice for about six months. That said, for the first time I was able to do a wheel pose and hold it.. Big smile. My best part of the week is when I can practice, 4x's a week or am in the water swimming or surfing.
At 53 I may be in the best overall shape in my life, I believe it has to do with the focus yoga brings to the exercise.
Peace,

I have had a daily yoga practice for nearly seven years now, but I haven't been to a lot of classes during that time so I miss out on a lot of the community support. It also means I have a hard time getting to some of the more difficult poses because I don't want to injure myself without proper guidance. It's nice to meet everyone.0

Yoga lover here!
I discovered Vinyasa yoga a few years ago and it totally changed my life. Gave me much needed balance and serenity. I've been practicing on and off the past few years...I find i can never stay away for too long. Since I left San Francisco I haven't found a studio I like but practice at home with my dvd collection. My favorite instructors are Seane Corne, Baron Baptiste (power yoga), Sadie Nardini and Rodney Yee.
I am going to embark on a summer of yoga tomorrow- for the next three months I am devoting myself to my yoga practice, 6 days a week with the only other exercise being walking. No more gym for a while. It is an experiment, I guess...want to study how a committed yoga practice will impact me physically and mentally.0 -
I love Moksha yoga. I started last winter. It really helps me relaxing after work. I don't do as often now in summer because I rather doing things outside. But I still go to my yoga class every sunday.
Question, does anyone know how many calories do I burn during 60 minutes hot yoga session? Thanks.0 -

I am also looking for a retreat, 3 -4 day. I go to 24hour for my classes but the idea of immersing in a retreat sounds great. Anyone been to a retreat? If so, which one and what did you think about it?0 -

I've never been to a retreat center, but I do attend workshops that span many days. I usually just find a teacher that I think I will like, stay in a hotel and create my own retreat. It's usually a lot cheaper.
Omega is a nice retreat center in NY, from what I hear. Omega has many different teachers come visit - from Rodney Yee to Lilias Folan. There's one coming up that offers many different teachers: http://eomega.org/omega/being-yoga/
They also used/still own Mount Madonna in Northern CA - my husband spend 7 days there for a mediation retreat and really liked it. There is a center here in Central Texas as well, but I've never been there. You just have to do some research to find one that fits you.0 -
It is yoga day here where I live on June 25th...apparently I can bounce from class to class all day long0
