What do you guys recommend that I should eat before and after the workout? I am wondering more for after. Since before I have something very small.

I eat nothing before, and a banana after. Then oatmeal once I get to work.

On days that I work out very early I usually have a shake immediately after and then some oatmeal with a banana and some peanut butter when I get home.

I have some iced coffee before a morning workout, the caffiene gives me an extra boost and releases fat into the blood stream (good burning opp), but other than that I don't eat anything. After my morning workout I have egg whites mixed with a bunch of veggies and a ton of water/lemon. If I'm not that hungry I chug a plant fusion protein shake.

I drink a protein shake and try to eat something small. If I don't I feel real dizzy and want to pass out

I don't have anything before.....drink water during and my protein shake with almond milk and banana afterwards, after I'm showered and dressed for work around 7am and that's breakfast....nothing more until about 10am when I have a protein bar...

If it's right when I wake up, then nothing. I swim at 6:30am and wake up at 5, so I will eat a clif bar before and real breakfast after. I hate running, but in the event I run instead of swim, I would wake up at 5, eat nothing, be on the road by 5:15 and then eat breakfast within 30 minutes of returning.

It depends what you're doing for a workout. You should be refueling your body post-workout to help with the recovery process. Protein to heal muscles and carbs to replenish spent energy. We would need to know what your workouts are like to be able to suggest a good post-workout meal.

at the running store, they suggested a piece of toast and some water.

I usually eat nothing and then drink a glass of skim milk when I get back

Nothing before & nothing after. Then breakfast on the way to work about an hour and a half later (usually a smoothie or protein shake). I'm really not hungry until then.

I have a 20 minute drive at 5 am to the gym during which I drink my coffee and eat a handful (about 1/3 cup) of dry cereal. Then when I get to work at 7:30am I usually eat a piece of fruit like a banana or apple. Sometimes crackers and cheese or veggies/chips and hummus for a snack at 10am.

I have to eat something before a workout. But that's me. Everyone is different. I usually have a small bowl of oatmeal w/ raisins and almond milk or shredded wheat and a banana. If it was a hard workout, I might have eggs with lots of vegetables after. I have the luxury of working from home, so I can cook something. If I had to get to work, I might pack a half a sandwich or something more portable.

Before, I have one energy gel if I need the energy, maybe once every couple of weeks, otherwise nothing.

Immediately after, I have a protein shake. About 20 minutes later I have a normal breakfast, usually a bowl of cereal or oats. That might be too early for you, though, I would have breakfast at your normal time if possible.

To put this in context, my weekday workouts are usually around 600 calories. I'm usually in deficit after breakfast, by 100-200 calories.

Coffee before. If I'm particularly hungry, maybe a banana.

After, breakfast. Breakfast typically is 4 fried eggs and a slice of cheese on two slices of lightly buttered toast.

You should have put that in your original post so we all could have properly freaked out.

My needs have changed over time. When I first started doing morning workouts @ a year ago, I had to have coffee before and food right away after. But over time I've gotten less hungry in the mornings so I don't eat until after I get to work. But a year ago I was chugging a smoothie before I even got in the shower. Just listen to your body.

I drink water before and during and then, afterward, I eat my normal breakfast. Not immediately afterward, though. It's usually about 45 minutes later.

I start my day with eggs, or a breakfast bar and milk. Then workout. then protein after, usually a quest bar. The after is definitely more important.
