Hello! Something weird happened to me today, I've been away from the weekend and are pretty bad and gained about 1 kg while being there. Yesterday, I came home, spent 5-6 hours in a car, no exercise, ate McDonald's for lunch and my calorie intake were about 1239 kcal (I counted). And today, I had lost 5 lbs (2.3 kg) and I did basically nothing? I know my scale isn't broken or something, I'm not overweight, I don't think it has anything to do with my menstrual cycle, but it may? Do you guys have any ideas of what happened here?

That sounds great! I've googled and it basically just told me that it's "impossible" and "dangerous" to lose that much in just a day. Thank you! :)

Depends on where you are in your cycle, but that is the number one reason for me to gain/lose significant amounts of weight overnight. I can fluctuate 5+ lbs the week of/after my period. And I often gain and immediately lose a couple pounds when I ovulate. Most of the time, I'll lose just a little bit more than I gained, so it's all OK in the long run.

I like to keep myself within 5 lbs of my lowest weight. If I go up past that number, I start logging strenuously and evaluate the last few weeks.

Yesterday, we ate at the Cheesecake Factory. Oh yes, that wonderful calorie-laden heaven. I didn't go overboard, with only eating a beef tenderloin meal listed at under 600cals and a couple of bites of a lemon cheesecake (who knows how much that was!), but every time I eat there, I gain 3-4 lbs the next day. However, my period just ended the other day, and I ended up losing 4 lbs overnight. So, it happens since weight loss isn't linear and all that.

Just keep at your routine and stay consistent with logging (if you do that) and don't get too discouraged if you gain some of that back. It's an awesome feeling the day that it whooshes all out!

    One of two things:
    1. You put on some water weight and now you lost it
    2. You dropped some excess water weight and you may put a little of it back on as your body regains the excess you lost

Either way, it is just part of normal fluctuations. I would only worry if you continue to lose really fast.

What's "losing really fast"? I can lose 0.7 kgs a day, and the rest of the week 0.3 per day. Total about 2.2 kgs, but I gain back about 0.3 to that, so its around 1.9 kgs per day. It's that too fast?

Losing too fast is losing more than 2 lb a week, on average, or faster than your plan. This is after the initial 4 weeks or so when first starting out. Those first few weeks, many lose faster because they are losing a bunch of water weight in addition to some fat.

So basically, I'll mention it to my doctor if it doesn't stop in a few weeks. Thank you! :)
