Most medical professionals recommend a diet that is similar to the food pyramid, including he American Heart Association . Most of the standard diets prescribed by food nutritionist also fall within this section. These type of diets are mostly based on acidic foods. Acidic foods have been linked to multiple illnesses including osteoporosis risk/progression; obesity; cardiovascular disease risk/progression; and overall well-being. An alkalizing diet has been proven to increase blood pH. Robert Young is the first person I came across who has talked about this, This video talks about the importance of an alkalizing diet. A popular theory is that when you eat acidic foods, your body does whatever it can to protect itself, doing so will cause adverse effects on health. Young is a researcher of over 30yrs of experience. Here is the video....

And this link is studies done on people who used a plant based supplements to increase pH levels.

What does all this mean? Whatever you want it to mean, I can't make that decision for you. I have tried this eating method, for me personally it was very hard to stick to stick to, due to my current eating habits at the time. No one should make drastic changes to their diet. If you're doing something and it's working for you keep at it. If it's not, try a different approach. I personally believe slow changes over time is what's best for the human body.

I've heard of PH-balanced diets before. But I don't know enough to comment.

Though I did want to say something about the food pyramid recommendations. Hopefully more and more docs will stop recommending it as that many grains are actually toxic to mammals. Only one type of animal does well on a grain-based diet and that's birds. Mammals and grains don't mix!

The food pyramid is propaganda for selling agriculture. Human health is not the objective, despite how it's marketed.
