8 litres of water a day??

Hi everyone
My OH is 6'4, very athletic, he cycles, swims, hikes, does bodyweight exercises etc.
Now he said he's calculated online he should be drinking 8 litres of water a day. That just seems so much to me and I'm worried he'll over-hydrate, it makes him painfully bloated by the end of the night.
Is this how much he should be drinking and I am just worrying about nothing?

8 Litres of water day?!
I guess everyone has a different requirement which can change daily due to activity levels, ambient temperatures etc.
He should be hydrating to the point where his urine is slightly tinted yellow or clear, and he should feel hydrated. I would say 8 litres is overkill.

There are a number of variables to take into account. For example, if someone has a physical job, is out in the heat, on top of that has a workout regime. It can very well be possible to need to consume that amount of water per day. Me personally, I go through about 6 litres a day this time of year. I do spend 70-80% of my workday outside, and the balance is spent in a sweltering warehouse, and then add my workouts on top of that.
So its really hard to say if 8 litres per day is too much or not, depends on the body's needs.0 -

No. It is too much.
I can understand that people drink 2L a day, I myself drink 2.5L.

I could easily drink that...I wish I could afford it (I drink bottled water) lol I probably would naturally drink 3liters per day and I am barely active..0

What could possibly go wrong?
Depending on the composition of his diet 1-2 litres should be sufficient. He's better off keeping an eye on his electrolyte balance than his hydration level.
