I'm new to this....I'm wondering why MFP wants me to consume nearly 3000 calories a day to lose weight? Entered my weight & height and that's what it suggested.
Wouldn't I get as big as a house!?!

That seems high...what stats did you enter and what rate of loss did you choose.
3000...unless you are really really tall...very very obese...really really active...just seems a little much!

Does sound a little high , but it could be possible. Just try re entering your stats and activity level and double check it to be sure. For example, if you put that you where very active then it would spit back more calories then someone who is lightly active. If your very tall , youll get more then someone who is very very short.0

At your size, it's very possible. Your body needs more calories to run than someone who's 130 pounds, and even more if you're active.0

Yup, calories are still up there. Hopefully I'm able to input my weight lost as I lose.0

then give it a go and as you start losing, change your current weight and it will adjust your calories accordingly.
Just be sure to always use your food scale and weigh everything that you consume to be as accurate as possible0 -

Wrong calculator. The MFP one give huge over-estimates for obese weights. Go here...
http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/
Use "Katch-McCardle" and put "65" for Body Fat %.
You should end up with a BMR around 1600 and sedentary TDEE of around 2100.

Hmmm...I'm the same height and 190 pounds, and my TDEE is about 2500. Even calculating her stats with the other two methods gives a BMR around 2500.0 -

I used this calculator...
http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
At sedentary activity level it gives around 3000 to maintain...around 2500 to lose a pound a week.
Try googling "weight loss calculators and see what some other sites give you.
Did you set MFP to lose 2lbs a week?
3000 just seems a little high even with the amount of weight that you have to lose.

Very true...even six days exercising bumped it up to 3500 TDEE. OP, maybe double check your information that you entered in.0 -
I've been trying to get back there again to re-enter the info and I can't find it again.0

Make sure that you have set it to your desired weekly weight loss goals. You should be able to safely lose 2lbs a week at your current weight.
The other thing to check is your activity level. This will also help determine your calories. The more active you are the more calories you need.
Good luck and let us know.0 -
What activity level did you put in? And loss/week?
Mr. Knight is right, there is a bias in the calculator used that tends to overestimate calories needed more as the amount your bodyfat percentage is above average increases, so I'd be skeptical of a goal that high.0 -
Keep in mind, you can use ten different calculators but at the end of the day, they are all estimates. At some point, pick a number that you think is reasonable and track your calories for 4-6 weeks and check progress. You can probably start at 1500-1800 and be fine.0

SO much this^^
My advice - start around 2200 or so for a few weeks, gauge your progress and adjust from there.0 -
