I am feeling weaker day by day but not loosing weight at all...why?

Hi,
I have been trying to restrict myself on number of calories required each day and number of calories need to be burn. I am not doing any heavy exercises, however, doing light cardio and pushup's. It is been more then two weeks, but I haven't lost even and single lbs, however, now a days I am feeling tired all the time and feeling too sleepy. It seems I am getting weaker day by day.
Please suggest what to do now?

Regards,
Bhupesh Vashisht

Where are your fat and protein? Those are the pretty low totals.

Your protein is far too low.

For a man your protein levels are way too low, so is the fat. Decrease your carbs they are all simple carbs i have those parathas at my house I don't eat them when I am dieting. Fill the reduction in carbs with good fats and protein .

You are not losing weight because you are eating more calories than you realize. Do you weigh food and log everything you eat? If you don't, you can't be aware of how much you are really eating.

As for your energy levels-I would suggest a more balanced split of your macros. Your carbs are super high and your protein and fat level super low, which is a nutritional issue. i would say to lower your carbs and increase both fat and protein and see how you feel.

Thanks for your response....I am vegetarian and do not eat and flash or meat...Well...I do eat egg though...If I know, Soya is rich source of protein. As far as Fat part is concern, am I not suppose to reduce intake to reduce inches ?

Just took a look at your diary. You need more protein, more fat and more water.

More accurate tracking would also help you to make progress. You have some incomplete listings, such as a cup of daal for 0 calories and 35 carbs.

Tracking is tough when you are eating foods that are not typical for the US or UK. Keep working on it and it will get easier over time!

    Hello bvashish!
Can you maybe get some coconut oil? That stuff has great fats for your vegetarian cooking needs. Also: Nuts have lots of fat! Eat a hand full every day. Btw, you can eat an egg a day without any worries*. The yolk holds all the vitamins, so eat that too! Afaik beans also have lots of protein in them. If you can digest them, you might want to try add them. :)

(*There's still that egg cholesterol myth going around. We already know that eating eggs doesn't hurt your cholesterol levels for various reasons.)

It looks like you eat dairy products. You could add a bit of cheese, yogurt, etc. to your diet.

If you live outside the US it can be extremely expensive to get hold of protein. If I were in Bangladesh I would have to spend a fortune to find protein sources. What I suggest is you increase your vegetable intake as much as you can. If you can afford eggs then eat eggs for protein. In Bangladesh eggs currently are very expensive. I could not eat 5-10 eggs a day in Bangladesh as I do in the US. But ultimately you have to reduce your simple carbs.

Dietary fat (as in the fat that you take in through food) is not the same as body fat and eating less fat does not mean you will become less fat. Getting enough healthy fats in your diet is very important to your overall health, and will help tremendously (along with upping your protein) in terms of your energy levels.

    Good luck!

Lentils, beans and the likes have a good amount of protein. You could also eat paneer. If you can't buy it it's really easy to make it yourself.

You should trying eating at the suggested calorie level that MFP gives you. The overall calorie level is likely a reduction from where you were eating before you started your diet. Also very important is meeting the goals for macronutrients--carbs, fats and protein--that you can see in your tracker.

Right now you are consuming too many carbs and not nearly enough fat and protein. With reduced calories, you NEED fat and protein in order to feel satisfied and strong. Getting that balance right is pretty tough for vegetarians. It may take you a while to find a combination of foods that works for you.

I really recommend pre-planning and pre-tracking your meals. You will find it hard to reach the right balance if you are eating on the fly.

You are definitely not weighing out your food with a scale. Since you are outside the US, it might be more difficult, but it is likely that you are eating more calories than you think you are.

Just eat at a calorie deficit and you will begin to lose weight. Also, as a male, 1500 is the minimum you should consume.

    Hi Bhupesh,

I used to live on an ashram (in the US in New York State) with a vegetarian kitchen. We had lots of soy and other legumes. Lots of dal. And kitchari. But no roti :(

You eating eggs makes it easier to get protein than if you were trying to get it from plant sources alone. As others have said, you don't have to worry about the fat content of eggs.

    Namaste,

    Kshama

Reducing on carbs would only lead to water loss, not actual fat loss. Increasing protein and fat intake also will not lead to weight loss, unless you are overall eating less calories than you burn.

Do you weigh your food? How can you be certain of how much you are eating?

No, just reduce calories to lose weight.

Adjustment of fat, protein, and carbs are for nutritional balance and satiety (staying full longer, thereby reducing calorie intake to lead to weight loss).
