Just Need to Vent

Yesterday was a really hard day. I'm down 21 lbs this year and fit in size 8-10 pants but I still have a very large chest and can't even fit in size 12 dresses sometimes. I ordered a Rent the Runway dress for a wedding this weekend and went to pick it up and it didn't fit. It zipped but didn't look good because it was too tight and leftie was spilling out the top. I had been looking forward to this dress for weeks and was devastated. The sales assistant pulled out a bunch of other dresses but a third didn't fit (chest), a third were ugly, and a third fit but required no bra (not an option for me). I settled on one that isn't my style and is half a size too big just to have something. I felt horrible and disgusting and hated that I'm the only one of my friends to have this problem. The wedding is going to be all my skinny hot college friends and I'm going to feel like the elephant. There's nothing to be done by tomorrow (I'll do one last ditch effort at the mall at lunch), but I just wanted to vent.

Yeah, basically this. I'm jealous of a friend's flat stomach, she's jealous of my small waist and hips. I'm jealous of another friend's even smaller waist and hips, she's jealous of my big boobs. And I'm jealous of people with smaller boobs that are perky and don't try to have an affair with the floor when they take their bra off.
We all want something we don't have! Haha. But I do know the pain of having to buy bigger clothes to fit my boobs in - personally I'd just buy the bigger size and take the dress in (or if I was feeling really lazy I'd safety pin it at the back!).0 -
Yea... I lift so I have some width on my lats and chest. So I have to get a bigger size... And then take in the part where my boobs go. Or else look like a 12-year old in her mommy's dress. We've all got these problems!0

Dress shopping is awful when your chest is bigger than the rest of you. And then people roll their eyes when you complain about being too skinny for your boobs.....but the struggle is real.0

I also have a large chest so I can definitely feel for you. I often pick dresses that have a shrug. It seems like that balances me out a little better. Having said that, keep in mind that you've lost 21 POUNDS! There are people on this site who would kill to be where your are! Go to the wedding and enjoy yourself and remember, sexy starts in the head. When you feel good about yourself it shows and it's contagious!0

@cvstokke- I'm also a size bigger on top - what about a skirt and top set so you can get different sizes? Alternatively, for a dress, you'd pay a premium for same-day altering, but it's an option.
Not the same thing, but I'm a size 10.5 shoe and frequently have to buy size 11s and fuss with them to get them to fit. I had a shoe guy reduce the straps on some sandals and now they fit perfectly. Sure, it added a lot to the cost of the shoes, but now they fit!
Also, arm holes on tank tops are frequently too big so my mom takes them in for me.
So my point is the off the rack stuff often doesn't fit - that's what tailors are for

If I understand correctly, you have a hard time finding dresses that fit because you're bigger on top? Is that right? If so, welcome to my world!!
It sucks that it's too late for this dress. Next time, try to find a place that does alterations.0 -

I never order dresses online because I just need to try them on ahead of time.
I know it's too late for this event, but next time you may want to buy a larger size to fit your top, and then pay to have it taken in on the bottom. It kind of sucks you have to spend more, but then it will fit everywhere and look amazing.

I've got the opposite problem (UK 10 on top and 14 on hips) and was thinking the other day that if roughly 1/4 women are pear and 1/4 are inverted triangle, surely there would be a good market for fashion shops that specialise in body types (possibly more so than tall - which is issue for me). It would be good to just be able to go to a shop and know that the clothes will have extra fabric where needed and be tailored to balance/suit the body shape.0

Thanks for the idea, but it's black tie formal, so I think evening gown is my only option. I have a backup dress, but I've worn it before and had my heart set on something new and glamorous. It could be worse, I'm just super disappointed.

Yeah, I definitely get that. It's just hard because I feel like most things people wish were different about their bodies don't so severely limit their clothing options. I just wanted to feel beautiful tomorrow (an ex fling will be there too). I did the nails and hair and spray tan and the dress was the final piece so I'm just sad about it.

Thanks, I hope so too. Hopefully I'll get over the disappointment overnight and feel good tomorrow. I'm sure the spray tan won't hurt either.

Spray tan, pretty make up, and pretty hair can go a long way!0 -

So this. As a teen I was always very curvy and my best friend was teeny - maybe ten years later she admitted how she was jealous of me, while I spent all those years being jealous of her! Wear something that makes you feel good, even if it's a fancy skirt and shirt (can buy two separate sizes). I guarantee nobody cares what you're wearing, but will just be happier to see you and enjoy your company.0 -

I was trying Rent the Runway (getting a very expensive dress for under $100) so I couldn't have altered. I hate that it's probably a service I just can't use

I get this. I'm at a stage where I can easily go down a size or two, but because of my large chest, I can't in tops and dresses. Anything smaller and my boobs don't fit, but then everything is too big elsewhere. Currently I'm using belts a lot, or just sucking it up with looking sloppy with baggier clothes.
Sorry you're disappointed, but I'm sure you will look stunning no matter what!

This is purely from a guy's perspective but if whatever you wear, you do it with confidence, it will make a world of difference! Have the time of your life and don't play the comparison game, life is too short. And to confirm what the others are saying....you look fantastic!0

Not a woman, but I'm in the same boat as having unusual proportions.
I'm 6', not out of the ordinary at all. However, I have legs the length of someone who should be 6'4" or taller. My arms are much the same.
Going anywhere but mid-to-high-end clothing stores basically results in me spending 3-4 hours looking for something that might fit, just to end up being disappointed and walking out empty-handed.
My only option for finding clothes that fit really well is to go to a place where shirts are $50 or more which is a big waste of money, seeing how I'm trying to lose weight.0 -
