O.K. First, I work in health care. I am a Surgical Technologist. And eating while at work is a battle. You either get it when you can or you don't get lunch. There are days where all you have is 5 min to pee, eat and roll on to the next case. Some days you are there 12 + hours and have not had any food. It is a crazy job sometimes. Other times all we do is eat at work. So...

Is it bad to eat really fast? I remember being told chew your food X times, ect. But, is it really bad for you? or was it a old wives tale.

Jenn

i dont see why it would matter
  • chewing you food x times makes your body think you are fuller faster. But if you only have 5 min to eat, then eat because skipping eatting can be bad

Thanks. I didn't think it mattered either, but as I was at work today, I was thinking about it.

It's only bad to eat fast if you don't have that time frame, because you'll eat more when you don't feel full yet. But if your meal is pre-determined and you only have 5 minutes anyway then there's nothing wrong with it, because you won't continue to eat in that time.

i think the whole point behind chewing so many times is just a way to make you take your time eating. I know with my daughter, she will finish a plate and be ready to run for seconds saying she is still starving. And i have to make her wait to allow the food to make it to her stomach. lol

It's not a weird question and I'm not sure about chewing foods a set amount of time but I think if you are swallowing big chunks of anything, your stomach might have a tough time digesting it so it may lead to indigestion:sick: ??
