Well if you're looking to lose weight, calorie counting is pretty vital in my eyes.

I personally think for this type of lifestyle it is more important to count your macros (fat, protein, carbs). Since you are haut starting out again, I suggest that you do not "stress" yourself on the calories for now and focus on the carb count.

Personally, I try to stay at 80% fat, 15% protein, and 5% carbs. I try to eat no more than 25g in carbs a day.

I suggest that you Google "Keto Calculator" to calculate your macros and see where you should be. I find it to be extremely helpful. As you lose weight, you can recalculate to adjust and keep progressing.

I have lost 80lbs so far since a year ago. I feel great and really support this lifestyle. Keep it up and don't beat yourself up for "getting off the wagon". You can always jump back on!

Best way to do it is to just do it. Start with eggs, butter, fatty ground beef, hwc in coffee, a leafy green, some avocados, olives, and full fat buttermilk ranch on your salads. Keep the ingredients list of your meals small, drink lots of water, measure your fasted ketones through a blood glucose/ketone meter, record all the data on yourself to find what works, stay below your tdee and exercise regularly.

If you limit carbs to 20g/day initially then typically your calorie intake drops to around 1300-1500 due to the high fat moderate protein foods and lack of blood sugar swings.

Base each meal around a 4 Oz's / 113g portion of non-lean meat or oily fish and low carb green veg. Omelettes are good too. Avoid fruit initially. As per Rockstar above basically.

That's terrible! You need carbs for energy! You should be taking in at least 35 percent and if you want less carbs up your protein not fat omg please tell me you're kidding

Google low carb high fat moderate protein. It's very common. And for many, very sustainable.

Out of curiosity, why are you so opposed to upping fats?

You are uneducated and/or misinformed about the body's needed supply of energy. I would suggest reading up on the liver (the main regulator of energy output due to what it stores and what it can convert or excrete), ketosis, gluconeogenesis, and beta ketone bodies.

It depends on your activity profile. If you're running 10k a bunch of times a week or lifting hard 3-4 times a week - yeah, you're going to experience significant performance degradation without carbs.

But if you're only lightly active and lower-intensity when you are active, you can get away with minimal carbs.

My macros are the same at about fat 75%, 15% protein, and 5% carbs. I keep my total carbs to about 20-30g each day; some days are less and others are more. Some people use net carbs (total carbs - fibre) to go by but they often keep net carbs lower (to about 20g).

I eased into it. For two or so weeks gave up all added sugars and any processed baked goods, and then I reduced foods with naturally occuring carbs and sugars like fruits. When I first went into ketosis I didn't feel very good, but I now feel better than ever.

    Good luck!

This thread is about a low carb/high fat diet, so no, I am not kidding. Initially if someone is not aware of how the liver processes and that fat can be used as a source of energy versus sugar/carbs, it does sounds terrible!

If you are curious, and as you can see from others that have said the same, I would suggest reading about low carb eating and how using fat as energy is very effective. Your body does not need to use carbs for energy if you do it right... And it isn't that hard IMO.

I eat vLCHF with 80% fats, 20% protein, and 0% carbs. Works excellent for me. I feel tons better on vLCHF. :star:
