Posted similar question before but now the problem is I'm not just not losing I'm gaining!!

Here's my story: I'm always between 106-112. Had a baby gained almost 50 lbs. I've since lost about 30 first 2 months after baby (fluid and baby) hitting the scale at 128 about 8 weeks post partum. Fast forward 12 weeks post partum still 128 so I hired a personal trainer and am counting ALL my calories. Only eating back half my workout calories, eating my breastfeeding calories.

Well not only in the past 2-3 weeks have I not lost I am now 130. Yup I gained 2 lbs!!!!!

It's annoying me. The weight just fell off no effort with my first baby.

Words of encouragement or help would be great.

I've gained over short periods of time, like a couple of weeks, eating at a pretty substantial deficit. Two-three weeks isn't a lot of time to judge, but if it continues it's most likely because you're eating more than you're burning.

People are going to ask: are you weighing your food?

Also what are your height, age, and goal weight?

No I'm not weighing my food. I have 2 small kids I'm lucky if I GET to eat. MFP tells me to eat more!!! It wants me to eat 1200 and when I fall below that I get this warning.

I'm 5'3. My goal weight is 106 but would be happy at 112.

So you are still breastfeeding? Be gentle on yourself!!! You have to nourish your baby with the best milk, which means you need to be nourishing yourself.

It's only 2 lbs you are annoyed about, or 18lbs overall. Perhaps you could take a longer term approach to losing those last few lbs - worry about raising a healthy baby in the first instance, your body fat second. Enjoy this short time in your life to breastfeed your baby, retain a little fat which you will need to produce the top-shelf stuff!

This is also your second baby....bodies change post partum. 106-112 might have been your average weight in the past, before motherhood. Your new average might be a little higher than that, still very healthy and slim.

    There is your problem

when you are in a plateau or gain weight you are not in a deficit any longer
(your deficit gets smaller and smaller while you lose weight)

Start weighing ALL your food ( dont use cups, spoons or serving sizes) and you will lose weight again as long as you eat less than you burn.

How do you know you are eating under the 1200 or even 1000 calories? You are not weighing your food...

You eat more than you think otherwise you wouldn't gain when you eat under a 1000 calories a day

Your problem is that you are not weighing your food. Start with that.

I seen on another thread that you are still breastfeeding. It's pretty concerning that you have your calories set to 1200 while doing this. If you do start using a food scale and start being more accurate might want to adjust your calorie goal.

Also, you just gave birth two months ago. You need to give your body and hormones a bit of a chance to adjust

Your muscle mass is probably down or was very low to begin with at your previous weight. Keep the focus on exercise and building some muscle mass. You are on the right track.

It's actually 3 months ago. So JKAL1979 what do you think I should do? Not weigh my food, stop working out, wait a few months to start again? I really have no clue what i "should" be doing. I just know I DONT want to have to buy all new clothes again. NOTHING FITS but my maternity clothes and it sucks to wear maternity clothes when you're 3 months post partum.

A SAHM so I'll be nursing for 2 years. Not a short time. And I just don't want to have to buy all new clothes.

I started to gain a couple lbs at 4-5 months post partum, so I started working out. I have 3 kids so I understand being busy, if you can't make it to the gym, you can find some great videos on YouTube (fitness blender, blogilates...etc.) I'm still nursing, but working out has helped me to reach my goal weight and eat about 2100-2300 calories a day.

you dont build/gain muscle whilst in a deficit...except for noob gains
Maintaining as much as you can yes...but not building

I think you should be more patient. I also think that you should weigh your food, continue to work out and hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable on the subject of breastfeeding calories will be able to give you more specific information on the subject.

You have a new baby. Four times I did that and four times I didn't sleep much. If you don't sleep well, it affects your ability to lose weight. It was easier the first time because you could nap when baby napped. Now you have to keep a close eye on #1 whether you're exhausted or not. Give yourself a break. Let baby and big sibling get into a routine together and then work on your weight loss. The more you stress over it, the worse it will get. Go buy some cute yoga pants and tees and role with the blessings your children are.

I usually retain a lot of water in the first few weeks after changing up my workout routine. Because of the weather being so miserable (mid 90s and humid) I've switched to less running outside and more weight training inside. I'll focus on more running in the fall, maybe train for a race. Right now I want to work on building strength. Anyway, whenever I switch thing up like this, I start gaining for a while. Right now I'm up a few pounds despite being in a caloric deficit for the last several weeks. It always goes away eventually, I'll just start dropping weight like a rock suddenly.

If the trainer and intensified exercise is a new thing, your body is probably just holding on to some extra water as it heals. Logging errors are possible, but you'd have to be WAY off to gain 2 pounds of actual fat in a week. That's like 7000 calories over maintenance! Just take the long view and hang in there.

Thank you everyone. And as odd as it seems I think MelissaPF hour advice to just go buy some cute clothes in my current size might just be all I need to feel better about being in this very annoying limbo phase. Then I won't feel so discouraged and impatient!

Give it a couple more weeks. If you aren't losing, eat less. :)

This takes time and requires adjustments. Hang in there.

Start weighing your food, as it makes a huge difference.
