Can anyone help? I've been watching and tracking every single thing I eat and doing some form of exercise everyday for the past week and a half and I managed to put on a pound. I've been on the same amount of calories for a while (1100) and thought the substitution of protein shakes for breakfast and extra exercise would help me shift fat but my waist measurement is the same and I gained a pound.
What is happening?! I am so so so down and disappointed that I can't seem to shift just 20lbs. Can anyone help?!

1100 is too few calories your body is probably going into starvation mode meaning you're holding on to the energy aka calories rather than expending them. increase your cal to about 1300 eliminate carbs and sugars & do an exercise that gets your heart pumping fast for at least 30 min 5 times a week. protein shakes may not be the best idea if you're just beginning your weight loss journey because it's just added calories

I have been on thus weightloss thing for 5 years yo-yoing between 12st6 and 10st2. I'm currently at 11st9 and finding it ridiculously hard to shift anything. Hence the drop to 1100 and trying the shakes. I will take your advice and up to 1300 though to see if this helps. Thank you

    The bolded is rubbish.

Weight loss is not linear. It can go in bursts.

Have you been eating a lot of salt lately? Salt will make you retain water.

Also, have you been through this chart?

    What chart is that?
As far as I know my salt intake is fairly low as I don't add it to anything and my diary always has low amounts of sodium.

That flow chart is awesome!! It explains things so much better than just words.

A week and a half is not a lot so I wouldn't worry about it much yet. Open your diary for some feedback...? In short, though, weight loss is literally as simple as calories in vs. calories out (unless you have a medical condition, and even then...). Personally, I am not sure you are really eating 1100 calories a day. Do you weigh everything in grams? On a digital scale? No 'cups', 'spoons', and 'pieces'...? If you measure with cups and such, your weighing can be off anywhere from 0 to a couple of 100 calories a day. I've seen people who actually ate more than 600 calories more than they thought they were just because they were eyeballing their portions. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck!
