For a while now Ive been trying to do research on this and see if this safe for my ankles, but heres what Im thinking. I wanted to try wearing 2 pound ankle weights on each ankle to work one day on, one day off, etc. I work as a nurses assistant and according to my pedometer, walk an average of 7.9 miles in a 9 hour shift. Will this harm my ankles? What If i wore the weights til lunchtime, then took them off? Would this help aide in weightloss/toning or just get irritating? Thanks for any input, I really appreciate it!

2 lbs is not a drastic change in weight. I dont see how it would hurt your knees if they are healthy.

I'd have to give that a polite thumbs down. I know from both reading and experience that it puts an unusual strain on the joint. I tried this once just around the house vacumming and light stuff like laundry and ironing, etc. and i was surprised that the next day my ankles were sore and even a bit hobbly. they were only 2 pounds each!! I'm in shape with fairly good muscles tone so i was surprised. :noway:

Better way to do this is to wear extra weight closer to the mid section of the body. I've seen in the stores a type of "vest" that you wear under your clothes that holds small weights so you can add in as many as you'd like.

    Best of luck! :smooched:

I believe I have heard the same that it isn't a good idea. Although I can't remember the facts or have the article to back it up. If you wear them to do specific exercises they are for that particular movement that you are concentrating on. But if you put them on and bend every which way that we do throughout the day it may indeed cause a problem.

And as for wearing anything around your middle? I'd really wonder for the same reasons if it is a good idea, too. Asking a doctor or a physical therapist if you work in the hospital would be a quick and easy idea to get a feel for what the experts say. I'd tend to lean towards an expert's opinion. Better safe than sorry. Just remember over time you will see the results you want by regular food changes and exercising. It's hard to be patient sometimes, though!
