    Calories burned depends on your fitness level and size. I'm 5'5" about 165lbs and I burn about 500-550 calories in an hour jogging 5mph (based on HRM).

    If your goal is to burn calories, then its the fastest speed you can hold for the time you have. Approximate burn is:

    ---> body weight in pounds * miles run * 0.6

    Oh, and put your treadmill at 2% incline.

    Sorry I'm 198 pounds and 6'1..

    So running at 7 mph at 2% incline would burn like 500 calories an hour??

    I don't think there is an "ideal" speed to lose weight...
    Push as much as you can. That's how you should do it. By "as much as you can" I mean make sure you spare your energy or endurance to last for an hour or whatever is within your limit. Nothing wrong with "overburning" ;-)
    Have fun!

    It should be...I think gives me around 400 for 30 minutes about. But you run on treadmill and there is no counter board on that treadmill? That would help to estimate if there is data available like how many miles you do in your 45 minutes.

    7mph * 198 pounds * .6 -> ~830 calories/hour

    -> 830 * .75 -> 620-ish calories in 45 minutes

    I'd hesitate to suggest regularly running for that period of time without working up to it. Unless you like sports injuries.
