Hey everyone!

My name is Meaghan and I'm new here.

Well, this is a new profile. I had one before, but upon a life change last year I seemed to have deleted it. However, I don't mind too much.

I have Hashimoto's disease and in full thyroid failure. I've been on medication for 3 years, but with extra work and such I have been able to maintain weight.

Due to life events I decided to just relax for a year after a sudden move to Charleston and the end of my engagement.

I'm back looking for support. I want to lose 35 lbs and just get into better shape

    Hi Meaghan,

My name is Paul. Life events can have an impact on us all for sure. Sorry to hear about your engagement. I went through something over the last two years and put on 20 pounds. BP was high and I was afraid the doctor would put me on meds. I wanted to try this first. Down 23 pounds since April 1. I only have relatives as friends now and help keep them on track to make sure they track their food. I eat anything in moderation, but also within reason and my calorie count. I know if I want to eat more I have to make up for it with exercise. If I can help anyone else in a small way like that I would :-) You can do whatever you set your mind to. Just believe in yourself and follow myfitnesspal to track every bite.

Feel free to add as a friend.

Thanks! It was well for the best! Moved to a new city and found a great guy, and realized how emotionally abusive my ex was, so now I'm just getting back on track!

    Welcome to MFP Meaghan!
There are a lot of people affected by your condition on MFP. I feel for you because on one end the condition it's self can really put you in a cycle of weight gain and then the meds can really screw you up as well wiping you out. I admire you for finding balance and would love to cheer you on! By the way, I live in Charleston for 6 years, it's a beautiful area, I am envious!

    Welcome aboard Meaghan!

Several people on there with the same issue, myself included. While hypothyroidism makes it more difficult, it is a relatively minor hurdle in the grand scheme of things.

If you ever need motivation Jillian Michaels has Hashimoto's as well. If you do some research you'll find several elite level athletes including gold medal Olympians with hypothyroidism.

I have nothing to contribute to the hypothroidism . . . however I was in a very abusive relationship for about 5 1/2 years and I gained a lot of weight while in that relationship. It was so emotionally exhausting that I didn't even really want to go to the gym . . . I did go but I wasn't as motivated or committed as I am now. It can really open a whole new world when you leave an abusive relationship and you figure out what you want out of life and what is best for you.

I have gone from 340lbs to just under 260 lbs (hit that mark last week!!!!), I have made so many more friends and I have worked on me as a person - not just diet, not just fitness, not just hair style . . . everything about me and I've come out better for it. Don't get me wrong, it's lonely sometimes and sometimes I do miss him but then I think back to everything I've gone through with him and I think that's really not what I want in life.

Welcome back to MFP! I'm so glad you had the strength to leave a situation which was not good for you and you were able to move past it, work on your life and get back in control. Feel free to reach out if you ever need to chat :)

Welcome back! I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease). I lost more slowly than most MFPers, so be patient! But I did it just like everybody else—by learning to log everything I eat & drink accurately & honestly. Logging works.

    Thanks everyone! Much appreciated!

And I have been quite lucky in finding a really great guy when I moved. The total opposite of what my ex was and he is so supportive in anything I do. After 8 years of being told I wasn't worth anything unless I was tiny, its nice to have someone supportive.

Again, thanks everyone!! It's much appreciated!
