JJ Watt eats up to 9K a day!

Since I'm a football fan, I found this article interesting.
I can't imagine working out so hard that I'd have to eat that much just to maintain my weight.

It said it would take about 50 slices of bacon, 20 chicken breasts and 13 whole avocados to hit 9,000 calories - lol

Shows you how hard those guys work!!
Here the article on Michael Phelps from the 2008 Olympics. They reported he ate 12,000 calories a day. I remember NBC doing a video from the OTC cafeteria on how they fed the athletes, especially MP.

Apparently his 12,000 calorie diet was a deception he started to psych out opponents at the Olympics.

Of course, there is this guy:

In this episode of FUEL, a new series dedicated to the high-performance diets of athletes, we follow Robert Oberst—aka Obie—one of America’s leading professional strongmen, holder of the American record in the Log Lift, and eater extraordinaire. In an average day, Obie consumes 15,000–20,000 calories to power himself through hours of punishing training. From the gym to the kitchen, Obie shows us the kind of fuel he needs in order to stay at the top of his sport.

Hmmm, I hadn't heard that end of it. Interesting tactic.

9,000? Man if it's true, he's pretty lean for putting that much down. That's A LOT of calories to burn off in a day. He's a big dude though, so I believe this is possible.

I could hit 5,000 calories/day with ease if I wanted to...

    But who was, The Rock?

Scooby's calculator puts him at about 4600kcal just to maintain weight. I've got no clue how many kcal he'd burn with daily exercise.

To train like an athlete you have to eat like one...but my guess is that the 9K calories is a bit of an exaggeration, much like the Michael Phelps thing...

Don't get me wrong, they're athletes...they eat A LOT...but these things tend to get exaggerated...that said, I'm only 5'10" with a desk job...I get in about 8-10 hours per week of exercise and eat around 3,000 to maintain at 180 Lbs...so I guess it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that someone of his size may need to eat 3x what I'm eating to train and play during the season.

Just came in to say I love JJ Watt. Dude can jump over 5' vertically, and devotes a large amount of time to helping kids in the area. Love having him on our team.

I kind of agree - I'm only 5 feet tall and 115 pounds. I only run 3-4.5 miles a day and maintain around 2,000 calories. He's a lot bigger than me and probably spends the bulk of his day working out.

I just couldn't imagine having to eat so much and I like to eat!

Hard to believe, if you're talking about the standard vertical jump. If you're talking about being able to jump onto something 5' tall by also bending his legs, that's another thing.

I've no doubt it may be 4-5K just to maintain weight, but 9K sounds like bovine feces

I vaguely recall Kiraly(first Olympian '84 volleyball team with a 40 inch vertical) doing 36 inch box jumps with 45 pound dummies in his hands. Sort of surreal to see.
