When to workout

Folks, I have lost 2 stones in 6 weeks simply by logging on MyFitnessPal and stopping chocolate,crisps,cereal and fizzy juice (my downfalls). I have 3 stone to go. I realise that this might be a stupid question but failed with Google. When should you start to go for sit ups and ab excercises? Do you wait until your at a reasonable weight or is it okay to batter in despite being in the seriously overweight category. Also any tips on what to use (just a mat and energy old style or machines etc) in the house. Thanks

I suppose I would like to lose the weight first and Wreckon that I'd feel demotivated if the scales started going up the way due to muscle. Best to wait?0

Thanks will have a look. New to this, my thinking is that if I don't do abs etc then will end up with looseness etc when weight comes of. Thabks0 -

As to weight gain from muscle mass, will be very very small if you are eating at a defecit.

Just continue eating at a defecit for weightloss.
Lift weights to retain muscle mass, do cardio to improve cardio vascular health. (Both optional for weightloss, but have tremendous benefits).
Depending on how much weight you have to lose, elasticity of the skin and genetics, you might end up with some loose skin. You could perhaps partly fill it with muscle, but that's all maybe's.
As to when to start strength training, sooner rather than later to persevere as musch muscle as possible. Otherwise you will lose muscle mass as part of natural weightloss. You could do targeted ab exercises, but a lot of the big lifts such as deadlifts and squats indirectly train the abs.
Good beginner strenght training programs:
-stronglift 5x5
-starting strength
- new rules of lifting

I haven't been in a gym in 7 or 8 years, my only reason for working out is to keep or gain muscle and lose only fat, a good 85%-90% of your weight loss happens in the kitchen and not the gym. Sit ups, push ups, planking, squats ext can all be done in the comfort of your own house and no need to spend the money on a gym unless you want to. You can get cardio from walking your neighborhood or visiting a local park ext. I'm not anti gym I'm anti the idea you can't lose weight without the gym and have to kill yourself for hours a day in order to lose weight because that's not true. I have been on my journey for a little over a year and gained 60lbs of muscle and lost 110lbs (7.8 stone) overall just working out at home every other day, eating all natural foods and eating small portions, I take a probiotic and daily vitamins to substitute any nutritional needs I don't get from my normal diet.
