Hello,

I currently aim to eat 1500 calories a day but I actually only eat 1266 calories. I'm aiming to lose 2lbs a week. I do cardio 60 minutes a day but I was told that I don't need to do cardio because I've already created a deficit? I was also told that if I'm to exercise daily, it should be weight training to ensure that I don't lose muscle mass? Is all of this true? I actually prefer weight lifting, so I'm hoping people can confirm this.

    Yes.

Okay so even if I didn't exercise, I'd still lose weight because of the deficit that I've created? I think I understand it now.

Um, you're a guy. You shouldn't be eating under 1500!

I know, but I don't feel particularly bad despite eating under.

I'm glad I could help explain.

You shouldn't be eating under 1500 at the very least. How tall are you and what do you weigh?

How long have you been using MFP to create a deficit?

Ideally, you want to stick to a calorie deficit that's sustainable and gives you good habits for life.

That means not punishing yourself so that you don't burn out and get polyphagia (uncontrolled eating impulse) caused by crash dieting. I'd hate that to happen to you.

The winner is the person who loses weight and gets to eat the most.

Eat back around 50-75% of your exercise calories so that you fuel your workouts.

You didn't gain the weight in 6 months, so it's unrealistic to lose it in that time.
