Cleaning up my diet is making a difference

I am so happy that I want to share how I reprogrammed my mind to eat more healthily.
I first joined MFP three years ago this month and within 5/6 months I got to my goal. Then life happened, i.e. divorce, setting up a business, depression etc. I got lazy then put on 10lbs more than what I started with and became really down. Since the beginning of this year I have increased my exercise and I felt more energetic but there wasn't much change in my body. When I sat for a minute I looked at what I was eating and it wasn't great. I took a trip to Berlin and decided when I was there that when I eat out I will go for the healthier options, even if it was a fast food place. I was there for 5 days and when I got home I had lost 2lbs. Three weeks in I have lost a further 1lb and have noticed that I am sleeping better. So here is what I have done:
- When I shop I now buy more veg
- Chop the veg up and put them in containers as soon as I unpack the shopping
- Use the veg every day in cooking or salads (it is so colourful and tasty)
- Drink much more water than usual, which I carry around in a flask
- Eat brown rice
- Cut up potatoes and make my own fries
- Drink, in moderation, at the weekends only
- Learned that if I can't pronounce the ingredient on the packet means it isn't good
- Have take out on odd occasions
- Become more creative in the kitchen
- Minimised the amount of bread I eat
- Cut out fizzy drinks
I love this and am positive that I can make this a major part of my lifestyle. I just thought that as I approach my 50s I want to look and feel great so I have to start now. I am exercising a lot but I need my diet to complement what I am doing to keep fit. My 10 year old son is also adapting to this new way of eating very well.
What was the click that made you change what and how you eat?

That's great! Yay for implementing healthy habits!
The click for me was when my fiance and I decided to get married and I thought "Ugh, wedding pictures."0 -
Nice one @kshama20010

The click for me was when I was at work and had three people insult my weight within one week. I didn't think I looked that big and got on the scale--I was heavier than I'd ever been. I spent about a week and a half being depressed and then told myself that I needed to quit sulking and do something about it0

I made two changes that transformed my health and gave me the physical and emotional energy to lose weight.
I reduced processed foods and focused on eating whole foods...and I bought a juicer and force fed myself fruits and veggies.
If was a few months later I began logging my food intake on MFP...and the journey began.
It was fun!
I lost 100 pounds and am a totally new man.0 -
@LenGray well done on getting that point. The main things is that you do it for yourself first because that is the best motivator. @Pinnacle_IAO that is wonderful and well done for getting to where you are. It is all about creating the lifestyle that you want and making it work for you.0

Congratulations!
I clicked when I had a health issue. Nothing like having your choices cause problems to get you to make better choices, lol.0 -
My click was children. I was determined to teach my children good eating habits.0
