During the day I am usually pretty healthy. But every single night I wake up between midnight and 3AM and eat random snacks. The other night at 2AM I ate uncooked pancake batter, followed by spoonfuls of peanut butter & then half a jar of pickles...(Uhhh WEIRD) My snacking is out of control!!! PLEASE HELP! If any of you have any tips to curb my cravings I would greatly appreciate it ! (:

I know that struggle all too well and peanut butter was always my go to midnight snack too. It was a terrible habit. What helped was drinking a lot of water throughout the day and also before my late night snacking. I also usually eat an apple after dinner now. It fills me up so I don't get hungry later in the night. That worked well for me... hope you find something that works for you.

Its kind of strange that you are not only waking up but are alert enough at that hour to want to get out of bed and eat. If I get up at that hour, I can barely find the light switch in my bathroom! Have you thought about talking to your doctor about this? At 3 am you should be sound asleep. It really sounds like a sleep issue. Are you drinking alcohol or caffeine? Do you have a newborn waking you? I would approach this as a sleep issue.
  • Make sure you don't go to bed hungry.. But be aware of something called iron deficiency anemia in which people have PICA where they crave for certain kinds of food (typically ice)

    I'm a terrible snacker...
    1. Make sure you are exercising your mind and body well enough - this will help you sleep better!
    2. Make sure you eat enough during the day. If you go to bed hungry you're going to wake up hungry!
    3. Try including turkey in your evening meal... Protein helps you feel full and sated. Turkey contains a protein that makes you drowsy... so it might help you feel full AND sleepy.
    4. Clear your cupboards, make unhealthy food inaccessible. Make healthy food easy to reach - put an apple or a low cal granola bar on your bedside table.

Finally, here's a weird thing I do. In my office draw, and in my bedroom draw, i have a mars bar. If I want a naughty snack, I can eat it. I don't need to prepare a snack, and I don't need to buy one. But I've built up a habit of NOT eating that mars bar. So... even when my willpower is at it's lowest, habit kicks in. I won't make or buy a snack because I've got one. But I'm in the habit of not eating the one I've got... weird, right? For me, it works.
