Hi my fitness pal community members, I was wondering if anyone can give me some running shoe suggestions ? As well does anyone have any workout DVD or exercises I can do if I have some knee challenges ?

go get fitted at a running or walking store. It's free to get fitted and they'll help you find the right shoe for you. My preference is Asics or Brooks.0

Great advice! For workout videos, go to fitness blender website. Free workout videos and you can search for ones that are low impact.

I second Asics for running shoes. I have "runner's knee" according my doctor. I do knee strengthening exercises, have two pairs of shoes and run every other day. Now able to train for a half marathon since getting the right shoes. I also take an extra rest day if needed if my knee hurts at all--but since I've been doing extra exercises that doesn't happen much.
Fitness Blender rocks for when it is raining and I'm too much of a wimp to go outside.0 -
I've had runners knees for decades. I've used Nike, New Balance, Addidas, and Asics mostly. I go into a store and spend a long time jogging around. The companies change their designs too. I got some orthotic inserts at a shoe store recently. My favorites are Spencos. They add cushioning and the shoe store people have a machine to check your arches. I use the inserts and s new pair of Nike Airs (stiffer than my New Balance) and give me much better support for my work out DVDs. I haven't jogged yet with them on my treadmill, but have been very happy with my feet and knees since I made the change about ten days ago.0

Ditto on getting fitted for shoes. You can run in them on a treadmill for testing. I also get fitted for custom insoles as well. Worth every penny. I also buy running socks with arch compression and padding in the heel/toe. My fav socks by far are by Target. Like running on pillows!0

Ooohh THANK YOU so much everyone. I'm going to checkout fitness blender and revisit runners specialty store in my area. I recently went and tried on mizuno wave creations and liked the feel but they didn't have me walk on the treadmill. I'll go back when it's not so busy:0

This is an issue I went through a year ago and finally landed on four pair of shoes (two cross trainers, one court, and one minimalist shoe) that I wear depending upon what workout I am going to do on that day. My cross trainers are Avia and Reebok, court is Asics, and my minimalist is Adidas. I also SWEAR by runners socks (I prefer those made by Under Armour).
Here is a link to an article that may help you as well:

Like many others have recommended -- get fitted. It is worth any wait you may have! Makes such a difference!!!0 -
I'm not an expert but I have "bad knees" and hypermobility syndrome which puts me at high risk of joint injury. I was advised by a physio friend to try barefoot/minimalist shoes and I haven't looked back since I bought new balance minimus! The most comfortable trainers I've ever had and I use them for everything from running to circuits to lifting. I need to buy more pairs because I wear them so much!
Agree though that getting fitted and testing out on a treadmill in a proper running store is a good idea as everyone is different.0 -
Pretty great article. I was unaware I need multiple shoes depending on what activity I would be doing. Thank you for that article0

I love Asics and New Balance. Exercise suggestion would be to walk moderate pace on flat trail.0
