I know a girl named Candida. It's unfortunate.0

That's an interesting article! But I am cutting out all grains, starches, sugar, etc so fingers crossed it won't be a waste of time for me.0

Sorry, no. It will interfere with the Monistat 7 day diet I'm on, currently.-1

No, I've done a lot of research and your one article where someone complains that the diet didn't work, when they didn't do it right anyway, isn't going to sway me. Thanks though.0 -
How long have you had candida?0

Why would you cut out all those foods ? Unless you have a medical issue, its not needed.
For weight loss, it comes down to cico. There's no need for these crazy diets. ( unless you have a medical issue) I lost all my weight enjoying the foods I love, using portion control . cico works .0 -

Of coarse it will be a waste of time. Diets like these don't teach the necessary tools for long term success.0 -
I'm not necessarily doing this to lose weight & learn to eat differently. I'm doing it for medical reasons. I didn't post this to be ridiculed or given the third degree. Just to see if there was anyone on mfp going thru this process. If you're not that person, I don't need your opinion.0

I really like Candida Didry.0

What medical reasons? And can you eat this way forever?0

Are you posting in the right thread? OP clearly implied she has a medical issue. ?????????

Good readers will assume OP is going on the Candida diet for... Candida.

@Blakelynn3 my mom struggled for years with Candida and no medical treatments were effective. She did finally get rid of it through dietary changes. I think what she did was different than you - I remember no dairy or added sugar but not no grains or starches (I could be wrong about that) - could you post a link to what you're doing?0

I'd like to know about it too.0

@Blakelynn3 I do not think it will be a waste of your time for many reasons. I started this Aug 2014 for pain management.
For two months I tried to taper off foods containing sugars and/or grains but failed. Due to my age and running out of time medically speaking Oct 2014 I left most all foods containing sugars and/or grains so my gross carbs were <50 grams daily. The first two weeks was hellish then the cravings for sugars and grains faded away. Now a year later the cravings still are gone.
30 days later my pain was managed by diet alone. Six months later my IBS of 40 years was cured. I have lost some pounds but a lot more inches than I would have expected based on what the scales read. Best of success.
We are all different so what is good for one may be bad for another so just figure out what works in your case and keep trucking. It may take some time to get it right but I expect your objective can be reached in time.
I am not sure what caused my Ankylosing Spondylitis but I know when I changed my diet my pain cleared up. I did not use what was in the article but I did add coconut oil when I cut out the sugars/grains so I do not know what did what. I just know after 40 years I have my life back.

My brother can not have any sugar or starches at all because of the Yeast build in his system. Actually he was losing weight for no reason, got really skinny, went to a bunch of doctors and nothing. Finally went to an Atkins doctor and when he changed his diet like that, he started gaining and much healthier. Even eating a potato will cause him discomfort.
Yes he was tested for Celiac and no it wasn't gluten. For him it is Sugar. They even said that people with this issue often end up as type 2 diabetics.
@galehawkins - I have IBS and for me less sugar and more fiber is key. I am also Lactose intolerant and discovering that made a world of difference. I feel best when I eat lots and lots of veggies, balancing protein too.0 -
@fannyfrost that was an encouraging post. Many people have no sugar related health issues and eat 150 pounds a year but that just is not so in my case. It is good to hear others are finding a way to better health through eating foods that agree with their bodies. I wish now I would have understood what I know now many years ago so I would not have damaged my body so. That is why I get so excited to see so many of you young people learning and making eating lifestyle changes before you do great damage to your bodies. Keep up the good work and keep reading out of the box research and the success stories of others who were able to manage medical issues with diet changes. My change to LCHF is for the rest of my life but I will modify if I learn new info that I need to act on.
Best of success.0 -
@GaleHawkins I am 49, so not so young. But my brother was diagnosed in his 20s and I think if he had not been at that time, he would be really really sick now at age 47.
I think you are right about diet. Many times we overlook how much what we eat effects us. It should not just be about weight, it should be about health. My daughter has a problem with foods that are very fatty. She actually ends up eating too little if she eats too much fried food. Even sauteed can trigger stomach issues. She went vegan for a while and it really helped, but eventually stopped helping. Now she works hard to have a balanced diet, eating all kinds of foods and avoids fatty foods.0 -

I can see why you'd cut out the foods that actually contain yeast, like leavened breads. But why sugar? Is it a feeding issue? Do you have to eliminate all fruits and vegetables that contain sugar as well? I imagine that this would be an incredibly restrictive diet if that is the case. Aren't there any medical interventions you can use to help your condition to avoid such a restrictive diet?0 -

Candida yeast thrives on sugar and increased sugar intake can exacerbate this problem for many. My best friend suffered for years from candida overgrowth and inherent health problems that came with it. Eliminating sugar completely helped her.0 -
