New personal best last night (for distance)! I ran 2.5 miles without stopping, slowing down, walking, etc. Prior to that I topped out at a mile before having to walk. My goal is to be able to run a 5k without having to walk at all. I know it's a small goal, but I've got to start somewhere. My last goal was to finish a 5k and so far I've completed about 4 of them.
Excellent. I'm in the same boat, hopefully running (only) my second 5K (three years apart) on September 27! But, @mwilliams5253 is this you in the picture! Now, if that is you, then you are already a hero0 -
Not sure what my plan is for after my half on 9/20, so I'll start with a goal of 80 miles and I may increase it later.

Sounds like a lot of fun. The Royals have been hot making it hard for the Twins. You guys enjoy yourselves.
Though I'm a Minnesota native, I did spend over 5 years living in the Kansas City area and the Royals are my second favorite team. It's good to see them do well of late, after being cellar dwellers for so long.

Put on my new shoes today and had a good stretch before and after...I can't say there was no pain, but it was less. I'll take that. I'm a little sore right now, but not sure if that's from lifting yesterday or from my run today!

@terihalsey62 @hayleymawr and @kstar_lee great job on C25K - anyone who runs will tell you that you are doing it the right way, slow build on your mileage, that is what prevents injury. Congrats!!!
@kristinegift I had to look up Eddie Izzard, I figured I was too old to know who it was LOL well he's old like me so I guess I need to get out more. Love your new picture.
@ohhim woohoo on being cleared to run. You and @stoshew71 are cracking me up on the age group. I wonder where that dividing line comes in when you are happy to go up. Like Skip, she moved up to 15 - 19 this year and though it hasn't stopped her from placing in races, she ran a few weeks ago against a girl who runs for her college team yipes! She will also now run against some of the girls from the Fleet Feet racing team. Me I can't wait to move up again because I'm getting to the top of my AG.
@mwilliams5253 great work on the PR for distance, that is awesome. I was wondering too if that was you in the picture. It's funny because people don't seem to think 5K or 3.1 miles is big deal, good night it's a big deal. When I first started to run I went out on our main street and drove 3 straight miles, it is FAR. Never sell yourself short whether it's 5K, 8K, 10K, HM or full marathon miles are miles are miles. Now start talking ultras those people are crazy. ha ha

In this particular case when it comes to BQ'ing, the Boston Athletic Association defines the qualifying times for each AG in order to qualify to run in the Boston Marathon. And as you get older, it get's eaisier to BQ. By easier, I mean you are alloted more time.

If I wanted to run in the 2017 Boston Marathon at the age of 45, I need to finish 3:25:00 just to be allowed to send an entry in. Big difference. LOL

No running yet this month as to quote @ruqayyahsmum its been peeing Buckets and also really cold - not a good condition for a trail run - too muddy and slip sliding has no appeal.0

I'm off the mark with a short run of 2.9 miles. I've got a problem with my IT band and I'm not really sure if I should be running or should I be resting until it's gone. I've looked up IT band stretches so I'm doing them several times a day and hoping that will help to get rid of the problem.0

I went out for a run on Monday and my leg started giving me problems and I didn't even make it a mile before I stopped. I wasn't sure that I would even be able to join in for the challenge this month but I went out this morning and had a really great run. My goal this month is going to be to run for 390 min. Hopefully it will be more. I'm still not ready to push too much because I am a big chicken about my leg.

@5BeautifulDays - glad the new shoes seem to have helped some! The hip exercises you are already doing are the ones I do too. I also try to get on the foam roller several times a week and hit the glutes and hip flexors along with all the other usual suspects.
@7lenny7 - 2 rest days sounds awesome, especially with the fun things you are doing! Go Dodgers! (Note the Angels are within a short run from me but I just can't bring myself to cheer for them!)
@Stoshew71 - I think you've got that BQ nailed. I, on the other hand, would not make it regardless of my aging up and a 15 min difference, in December!
@Abakan - you might also try a foam roller for your ITB. I have not had any issue with mine but my trainer does and he rolls it out starting way up on his thigh and moving all the way down. Here's an article: http://www.active.com/running/articles/3-ways-to-conquer-it-band-pain

Rest day for me today and I really need it. Even after a pretty good nights sleep I am feeling exhausted. Pretty sure it is as much stress as anything but I have run a lot in the last 4 days and had a very active/busy weekend.

NEWBIE!
I started running in early August, and my goal at the moment is to run a non stop mile!
Instead of trying to aim for X amount of miles for Sept, I'd like to keep a log of my daily non stop distances. And aim for 15 runs (I run every other day) and get as close to 15 miles as I can

Seems like I'm finally starting to get my running legs back as they weren't as fatigued this morning as they have been since I started running again after having to take a rest all of July due to illness.
Also just found out that one of my new coworkers used to train people for iron mans and triathlons. So we'll be offering a running club together for the students. Plus I'm excited cause it means I can ask him about half marathon training.0 -
I'm going for 25 miles this month. I know it's not a lot but I'm coming back from a bad knee injury from soccer so I got to start somewhere!0

MFP September 2015 Running Challenge:
Thanks for the Kudos and "points." They really helped motivate me to get my run in this morning. I am lifting light this week but had an pretty intense leg day yesterday.
I have sore glutes today but it felt better while running. As soon as I stopped the bun throb returned.
I had a good 3 mile run around town.
I am working on speeding up my "comfortable " pace. I was successful. Upgrading my pace from 12min to 11 min a mile average.
Goal: 48 miles

I'm aiming for 15 or more miles a week, so 60 plus is my goal for September! joined a local running group and went to my first "pub run" last night. So nice to chat with like minded people! Hoping to attending a pub run once a week! Basically you meet at a designated bar, run a 3 or 5 mile loop group run back to the bar, and then go inside for drinks, apps, and conversation!0

@mwilliams5253 - I think that is a great goal to aim for. That's the same thing I did. I used the Couch 2 5K last year and once you get to the point of running the 5K straight through, adding more mileage seems to start happening. I'm slow, but I ran the first 5K straight through in September and then a 10K straight through in March. Next up is the HM in October, but I won't be running that straight through unless the weather is nice and very cool that day.
@stoshew71 - You will qualify and I can't wait to hear when it happens!
@7lenny7 - Forgot to mention when I did a bike tour in San Fran last week, there were 4 people from MN! I, of course, had to tell them how I already know how all people from MN are "nice". They laughed at my analysis that I liked them already. Seriously, they were great though. I don't think that mom walking the baby in @skippygirlsmom's neighborhood is from MN.
@abakan - I had IT band trouble earlier this year and mine was because I started adding a lot of biking miles in the week while also running. (at least that is what my interpretation of what happened was). I got a foam roller and was diligent for months on using it before and after runs and it went away. I have gotten a little lax on using it lately, which reminds me better get on it.
@hayleymawr - that's fine! You can count it however you want. On every run that I list the first .3-.5 is actually me walking fast warming up. I just have to do that to warm up.
@5BeautifulDays - glad to hear there was less pain!
