Binge eating

Hi my name is Daisha and I am 19 years old. When I was 17 I started eating right and exercising because I realized I wasn't happy with myself. I lost a total of 15 lbs. Shortly after that I went to college and gained back everything I lost and even more. I got in the habit of eating until I just couldn't fit any more food in my stomach. Then I would be so overwhelmed with emotions and get really down on myself. I still continue to do this and would love some advise on how to stop binge eating. What things worked for you and what didn't.

If you're suffering from an eating disorder, a medical professional should be your first stop getting started. Your primary care doctor may be able to refer you to a dietitian. Mine gave me blood tests, helped me address nutritional deficiencies, reviewed my eating plan, and referred me to a therapist to work on my anxiety. I would also suggest you consider getting mental health treatment if you are able to. I binge ate for about a decade, meeting all the criteria for what is now known as binge eating disorder, and had to sort out a lot of my emotional responses to food before I saw success. You've already taken the first step by acknowledging the role your emotions play - your next step is getting the help you need from the people who know how to treat it best.
