I have chronic constipation, and it seems like all I do is gain.

Hey everyone, sorry if this is TMI but I really need opinions. I WAS on the HCG diet a while back and all of the people on the forum were telling me how I need to eat less, wasn't following the diet correctly, etc (I kept gaining...but I also wouldn't poop for over a week.) They made me feel really bad and like it was all my fault that my weight wasn't dropping. I really hope people on here aren't like that....

Here's the problem. I've hit a plateau of 139, then I saw my doctor on Monday and was 138 (I was so happy). But now, I'm 142! I have not had a BM since last Friday, and it was only a tiny bit I was able to go. I feel like I want to go, but it just never comes about. I have tried Smooth Move tea and it only gives me horrendous cramps and no BM, have taken senna pills and I only get cramps and no BM, have taken things similar to Exlax and all I got was cramps. My doctor told me to take Metamucil, I've been taken it for a week 2 times a day and it hasn't helped. I don't know what to do. Whenever I get weighed in at the weight loss dr they make me feel like I'm not trying.

Is it possible to just keep packing on the pounds until I can finally go to the bathroom? I can go 2-3 weeks without going even once and I end up feeling so heavy/bloated/full and disgusting.

What else can I do to stop the weight from piling on? Do any of you have this problem? I just turned 30 but I feel like an old woman. Sorry for the TMI once again, I just really want other people's opinions on the matter.

I have had some difficulty with constipation. What I use are suppositories. They work quickly (usually within 15 minutes) and have seldom caused any cramping (maybe once or twice some light cramping).

    I use the Dulcolax brand.

I had the same problem and all the same symptom I even see a few different doctor and try everything you did. Then my gyno. Told me to try magnesium citrate and finally had my BM. Try and see if that help.

400 mg magnesium citrate tablets a day with a large glass of water.
4 oz prune juice upon awakening followed by 2 glasses of water 10 minutes later.
Lots of fibrous fruits and veggies.
Lots of water throughout the day.

I had trouble twice, once on a HC diet and the other was really bad after trying 2 protein shakes a day as meal replacements. I second magnesium citrate. You can get a liquid bottle for cheap (like $1) at almost any store. It's gross tasting but it does the trick. I also used dulcolax tablets before because the citrate caused too much cramping. Both methods worked but I definitely suggest doing this on a night you don't have to go out the next day.

It's not necessary to take the liquid mag citrate! That's for cleaning out your colon for colonoscopy!
Get the tablets and take 400 mg a day.
Ducolax and liquid magnesium are too harsh!
Milk of Magnesia is good or Miralax is good.

That really sucks! I'm on some pills that make me constipated and it's so uncomfortable. Do you eat whole wheat grains? When I eat pasta and bread, I make sure they're whole wheat. I also drink tons of water (more than eight cups a day; do Crystal Light if water isn't your thing) and that helps. In a pinch, you can drink coffee with just a touch of creamer or milk but that can be easy to overdo, so be careful.

I also have very severe constipation issues. You should get to a GI doctor to get checked out if you haven't already.

Can you eat less cheese and white rice? These foods are probably making things worse for you.

How old are you? Are you on birth control pills? I had horrible constipation and gas pains for years while I was on the pill. Went to see different docs, tried miralax, fiber, enemas, everything. Then i went off the pill and everything went back to normal and has been fine for 4 years since I have been bc pill free. I think it could be the hormone differences caused by the pill. Anyway, just thought I would share what helped me!

I also recommend magnesium. If that doesn't work I would definitely get your doctor to run some tests or refer you to someone who deals with these types of issues.

OP how many calories do you eat every day? Do you exercise?

Up your fruit, vegetables and whole grains, make sure you drink enough water and increase physical activity. If you already have a fiber-rich diet and are not dehydrated, you need to get an appointment with a specialist.

When I went on the low carb high fat diet eating lots of protein that caused painful constipation for me. I changed to fruit and veg, lots more fruit is the answer its a more natural solution for me.
