Fat, morbidly obese woman in the weight room....

Fat girl in the frat house.
What type of reactions would she get? What would you honestly think? Would anyone think anything at all.

Honestly? I'd think "Good for her! I hope she continues to come here." and I'd secretly cheer her on.

I'd smack myself for paying so much attention to other people in the gym and not my own workout.

    "*kitten* yeah, lady!!!"
And I'd do the little head-nod of respect if we made eye contact.

Get in there! You are in the wrong gym if you aren't getting help and respect from other lifters. No matter what your size, age, or sex.

Edit to clarify that you aren't the one in the wrong but those in that gym are. So find a better gym.

"What are you doing in my house?", but then again I workout at home.
At a public gym, I'm glad anyone type of person is there improving themselves. Until they're using the equipment I want to use, then I intensely hate them for a few minutes of walking around or moving to another exercise out of my planned order.

Eye contact and the head nod are one of my favorite things

I might notice, only because I'm typically one of only a few women there and it's always nice to see another one. Beyond that, who cares? There are men of every shape/size there, from underweight to obese, and nobody comments.

I am a woman so I would be happy to see another woman lifting. When my schedule helps me be at the gym at the same type as other women, it is always nice.

This is some great *kitten*. It is unfortunate that not too many woman are in the weight room.

You're going to the wrong gym

Mine's part of a major health care system and includes a significant rehab component, so I guess I'm lucky to have a diverse group.

There are almost as many women as men in the free weight section. There's a good chunk of folks doing rehab work including some really elderly individuals (one guy is 90+, he uses straps and not weights), and a good proportion of uncoordinated noobs as well (still include myself in this group). This along with some power lifters and other serious athletes. So I probably wouldn't pay much attention beyond 'don't remember seeing her before'.

There are several morbidly obese women I see at the gym Most of them are doing work and I think that is great. 1 or 2 sit on the leg extension or good girl/bad girl machine doing nothing but looking at their phone for several minutes, do a couple light reps then go back to the phone. Those I think just go home, don't take up space here.

Every single person in the gym is there for a reason. If they were totally happy with their bodies and their health, they wouldn't be there.

We used to have a really old, very heavy woman in our Zumba class. She came in every day pushing her walker and sat in a chair until it was time for class and then got up and did what ever she could. She was an inspiration!
I think everyone is self conscious in the weight room, at least to start-I would not have any opinion other than a good one to see someone in there making an effort regardless of size.

I was the chubby woman in the weight room last year. Now I'm the lean, fit woman in the weight room. Worth any uncomfortable feelings to start.

After I started going to Zumba, I swear more large women joined. It doesn't take much to reach the tipping point and more people are comfortable.

I figured out a long time ago that weight room rats are too busy checking out their own bodies to worry about anyone else's.

I happy seeing everyone working out at the gym - provided they arent drenched in perfume are lounging around just chatting while taking up the equipment I need to use.

I love seeing more women in the weight lifting area! When I first started I was totally intimidated by the ripped guys, now I walk over confident and focus on my workout. Get in there girl - you can totally rock it!!

If she looked like a newb, I'd keep an eye on her to make sure she wasn't hurting herself, but I'd do that for pretty much anyone who looked new. Other than that, a smile and a nod -- the more folks pushing iron, the better.

OTOH, if she's warming up with my max, meh.

I'd be happy she was there. I was once that woman , now I'm the thin woman in the weight room. I'd think it was great !
