They're relatively more accurate for steady rate cardio compared to a machine or MFP. If you can't get one, just eat back 50-75% of your calories burnt through the machine or MFP to compensate for any inaccuracies.
1200 calories is already fairly low.
Eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories.
I only eat back half my burnt cals anyway so if it says 400 burnt I only eat back 200 of those... And whats a hrm? And where do I get 1?
Yes. Stick with the 200. I wouldn't change it yet since we've already established that your initial post is likely a different scale with possibly some initial water weight gains.
A HRM is a Heart Rate Monitor. They are vastly overrated here for estimating calories. Personally, I wouldn't recommend one for calorie estimates alone.
So I should carry on the way I am and see if I have a loss next weight in with the same scales? If no loss change it to 200 cals?
I would always encourage giving it more than 2-3 weeks to evaluate if something is working or not working. And make smaller changes, then re-evaluate.
Ok thank you will stick with it for a bit longer then and see how it works out
yeah, you really need to be looking at trends over time, not necessarily the weigh in to weigh in numbers...weight loss is not a linear process...you will have weeks with bigger losses, smaller losses, no losses, and even gains...but when you look at the trend over weeks and months it should all average out.0 -

Yes. Because gym machines, MFP, and other internet sources generally overestimate calories burned.0 -

I used to feel that way about water but now ice cold from the fridge, the most refreshing drink hands down. Try adding a slice of lemon or lime or a few berries. Or Drink club soda with the added fruit. You get the fuzzy without the sugar.0 -

Thanks hun will give it a try0 -
Different scales will show different numbers . only use one scale , and don't worry about it when other scales show different readings .
And since its only been one week, its not enough time to really determine if its working or not.
Just continue to weigh all your foods. Don't eye ball portions, weigh them all ! And you'll be fine0 -

That's if your cals burnt isn't accurate...... Still, there's no way you gained 9lbs in a week. It could be any number of things that threw that off so I wouldn't stress too much over it.
I was thinking this too. 400 calories for a 30 minute workout? I'd be dubious about that.
This is how many cals it tells me on here and on my cross trainer im burning? I no people burn more when they are heavier don't they? I assumed it was correct as this is what it's telling me?
Burns on machines and in MFP are usually high. Burning more than 10 calories/minute takes an INCREDIBLE amount of effort. Machine burns are often based on the fit men who tested them. Not a goo calibration for the average female. I'd cut the burn the machine's telling you by 20-50%.
When I've worn my HRM, which is calibrated to me, the PreCor elliptcal says I burn about 700 in an hour, HRM--about 450. Same with the other machines.
That being said, patience is key. It's only been a week. I know the feeling of once you commit to getting the weight gone you want it gone NOW! But weight-loss is a marathon, not a sprint. Hang in there!0 -
