I don't know why, but I do. I have been so HUNGRY lately. I really want to lose weight, be healthy and be around for my kids. These should all be super motivators, but for some reason lately, they haven't been. I see all the success stories, where people have lost crazy amounts of weight, and are doing well and all I can think is... wow, wish I could do that. I want to be active, and I want to eat healthy, but its so HARD!!!! I know nothing worth doing is ever really easy. I know this. I have been brought up with this philisophy. i just can't seem to get out of this RUT!

I am a SUPER eater. What I mean but that is any type of extreem emotion, I eat. Bored? why not eat? tired? Eating will keep you awake? Sad? Eating will cheer you up! Happy? Celebrate with a piece of cake! I come from a VERY Italian American family, where everything is centered around FOOD. It's driving me crazy! my whole entire life has been about waking up in the moring and thinking about what we are going to have for dinner. I can't seem to get myself out of this mess. It's really time for a change, but I can't seem to get there.

Please help me!!

Try any kind of distraction you can think of. Remind yourself over and over that this hunger, or whatever feeling it is, is okay to have, but you control it, not the other way around. Hang in there!

What your feeling is very normal! It takes time. If you are hungry en try upping your calories for a little while and see if it helps. Just. Ake sure that the calories that you eat are "healthy" I am an emotional eater too! I am proof positive that you can change your habits. It has taken me a long time and I go through waves, where I can stick to it and be really good and when I feel like it is hopeless. Keep at it, you will get there, I understand how hard it is!

Try to start small by drinking lots of water. Take a bottle of water and put 8 rubber bands around it, each time you finish take one off. That's how I remind myself to drink so 8 bottles of water per day ( I know that's more than the reccomended 8 8oz glasses, but just upping my water intake helps me to lose a few lbs.

Another thing that helps me is to brush my teeth. When I'm bored and want to eat, I time 5 mins. If I still want to eat after 5 minutes, I drink some water. If after the water I still want to munch, I brush my teeth. When my teeth are all clean, and feel smooth, I don't want to ruin it by eating.. I hope that helps at least a little.

The hardest step is the first one!! You can do it!!

A dietician told me that to help with cravings, up your water intake and chew sugar free gum. However, I know it doesn't always help. I've been trying to do 100 to 150 calorie snacks every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and that has been helping. My regimen has been a 200 calorie "meal" within an hour of waking up, a 100 calorie snack, another 200 calorie "meal", then two more snacks, and then a 500 to 700 calorie meal to end my day. The frequent snacking has been helping. I also have at least 2 liters of water a day. Eventually, your metabolism will get used to the changes in your eating habits and it will help. Just think of the growling as your stomach shrinking.

    Good luck!

i can totally relate. as soon as im finished with one meal im thinking of the next.

what is your meal plan throughout the day? as in, what are your diary headings? Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Snacks? i used to have that as my settings and recently ive changed it too Breakfast/Mid-Morn Snack/Lunch/Mid-Afternoon Snack/Dinner. i find that allotting myself some space between meals in my diary for a snack has helped curb that urge to stuff my face.

also, is the food you are trying to eat to be healthy just not cutting it with taste? do you like what you are eating?

I am an emotional eater also, so I understand what you are going through!!! I used to sit at the computer and because I was bored, would eat a whole bag of chips before realizing what I had done. I had to "fix" my brain. Now, if I am bored or upset, I go for a walk, work in the yard, clean the house or go to the gym. If the temptation is too great, I eat a cucumber or carrots, or even veggie chips and salsa, but I make sure to watch the serving size. When the serving size is complete...that's it, I walk away. It will take time, but the emotional eating will stop. Remember, you control your body!!! Good luck to you!

Sorry you are having a difficult time.I was looking at your diary.I had a suggestion. If you add more fiber, that will fill you up also.
I try to find something got do instead of eating.I know drinking water or tea also helps me.
Don`t give up.You are worth it.

I was the same way (and still could very easily go back to it!). It's still something I struggle with every day. But all thd corny sounding tricks people on this website talk about really do work. I drink water, chew gum, distract myself with other interests, and really concentrate hard on why I'm doing this. The good news is that it does get easier. For the first two months I was hungry ALL THE TIME and I really couldn't stop thinking about food. Now I often feel full--not something I experienced very often before this lifestyle change. Also I do a lot less cooking now. Reducing the amount of time and effort I put into cooking really helped me stop obsessing about eating.

Please read this book called "Made to Crave". Its a wonderful book and very affordable. We are all in this together, remember, "Everything is permissible but not beneficial." That's a quote from "Made to Crave".....best wishes!!!!!

It is too bad that you are having a hard time with this.

I really believe you have to be ready to do it. You have to be into it. You have to EAT WELL while you do it. You have to have meals spaced through out the day and snacks, you have to plan. You have to budget your calories wisely to get the most bang for your buck.

You have to drink your water and watch your sodium...it also helps to avoid frequent use of white carbs and use whole grain substitutes.
And if you do portion control you can WIN.

I love food and love to cook and shop for it and plan meals...I love to eat out. But I want to be at a goal I can live with for the rest of my life. So I have to make peace with eating well and yet eating the right amounts of food. I also come from an Italian and Portuguese background where good food is the basis of life...How we got this way...and great cooks are in our genes!

I could never do this is I was not ready to do it.

wishing you not to give up but to find a way that works for you. :flowerforyou:
  • I know the feeling, and I did give up for an entire year, and gained 16 lbs.....You can do this!!!! Like you I look at all the amazing success stories and I use to think I wish I could do that. Now I think, I cant wait until I can put my before and afters up.

Stay positive, you will do this!!!
