Vegephobic - advice needed!

Hello! I'm new to MFP and to weightloss in general. I have 84lbs to lose and I've started this week tracking my calories and making sure I have a defecit every day, but I have a problem. I hate all veg. I'd go so far as to say I'm afraid of it, I can't bring myself to put it in my mouth and I scrutinise all my food intently to ensure there's none present. At some point, when I am rich, I will probably need to seek professional help . In the meantime though, I wonder if anyone could advise me on a suitable plate-filling alternative, as at the moment I am finding that what I am eating is not enough to satisfy me, and I'm worried this will demotivate me too much. I might be the only person with this problem, certainly I've never met anyone IRL as averse to veg as I am, or there might be others in the same boat.

Please, no scathing 'veg is good for you, you should eat it' comments. I'm not a child and am aware of my own weirdness!

Thanks :)

What do you eat now? Just eat less of it :)

I see tons of people here who say they hate veggies. I really have no advice for you. There are ways to make veggies palatable but you don't want to hear that kind of advice.

i mostly eat wholemeal pasta and rice, chicken, tuna, fruits (mainly berries), dairy products. i know it's not great to be loading up on carbs though, so i'm trying to cut down but i don't know what i can substitute them for :(

palatable is one thing, less frightening is another. you're correct that i'm not particularly interested in advice on how to eat vegetables, which is why i asked for advice on alternatives.

If that is the bulk of your meals, I'd suggest you get a food scale and make sure to weigh/measure out your portions. Maybe try fruit as a substitution for veggies.

Log your food in your diary for a week and see if you can make any changes. You don't need to change anything unless advised by your doctor.

This sounds a lot like disordered eating. I know you said you didn't have the money to see a professional but have you tried looking on Amazon for books about disordered eating? There are some workbooks out there too that might help.

Just eat fruit till you feel ready to try the veggies! I used to be a fruitaholic and I still lost weight. Maybe add an extra serving of fruit to your meals.

Is it all vegetables, or just the non-starchy ones? I mean, can you eat potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn...? Just asking to help understand and maybe the answers will inspire better advice.

it's all veg, really. the most i can manage with potatoes is roasted, but even then i'm fussy. i don't eat sweet potato or corn etc. the veg i hate most is peppers. and i hate the ones with a sweet taste like carrots or parsnips.

honestly, though, i think it must be more than just a taste/texture thing since i don't eat any. i physically can't eat them :/

There are three macros...protein, fats and carbs. If you want to cut back on carbs, you're going to have to increase protein and fats by default. your list of foods looks good to me. You could add other meats, nuts, or legumes.

I seem to be ok on my carb macro, but i'm getting too much protein and not enough fat. would you recommend nuts and legumes for fats? are the macros the things you should be paying most attention to?

You are so young. I hope you find a way to learn to eat vegetables as they really are a staple of a nutritious diet. Can you think of how this happened to you? I know you don't even want to try, but the most flavorful way to enjoy veggies is roasted with garlic and olive oil or sautéed with a small amount of butter and some herbs. If nothing else you could cook some veggies, blend them in a blender or food processor and add them to soup. You wouldn't even know they were there. Or grate them and put them muffins. Zucchini or carrot muffins are yummy.

In your case, yes. Filling your plate with more fats and protein will benefit you.

Shirataki noodles. Almost no calories, add a bunch of meat, sauce, some cheese. Or make a stir fry...without vegetables? Whatever floats your boat. They are very versatile.

Sugar free jelly is filling and just a few calories. Seafood sticks as well. Are you fine with popcorn? What about a meat based soup?

If you don't like starches and veggies, you sound halfway to eating a low carb high fat diet. A LCHF diet usually has moderate protein (20-35%) with few carbs (5-15% usually) and plenty of healthy fats (50-75%).
