I am having a hard time toning my triceps. Was wondering if anyone could give me some good exercises to help this problem area?

    Chair dips are good.

Bent-over tricep kickbacks, dips, skullcrushers, tricep extension, etc. Or take a look at bodybuilding.com at the tricep section.

Bench press, close grip bench press, bench dips.
  • Bench dips, bar dips, overhead dumbbell extension, dumbbell kickbacks, cable push downs, tricep push ups, close grip bench press, skull crushers.
Make sure you're doing enough tricep exercises also, many people just do one and think that that is sufficient enough. The tricep consists of 3 heads (hence tri) and when you just do one exercise you typically will only hit one or two heads.

Exercises don't target fat or skin, if that's what you're trying to "tone". For more on that, google "spot reduction myth". To shrink fat, eat at a calorie deficit, and follow a full-body strength program to prevent muscle loss. Adding additional triceps exercises is pointless unless you're a bodybuilder. :+1:

Yep. You won't gain much muscle while eating to lose weight (and even than only at first) so what you're trying to do is lose enough fat so that the muscle you have shows through. Since you can't choose where you lose fat, you need to simply keep at losing weight and it'll eventually drop from that area.

All of that said, I highly recommend a strength training regimen to retain more of your current muscle during the weight loss process.

You cannot spot reduce. Tone is a noun, not a verb; you can develop/strengthen/build your muscles in the triceps. If you mean that, and you are looking to see your triceps, you need to lose enough weight to let those muscles become visible. That means eating at a deficit to shrink your fat cells, which will never disappear, but you can keep them "deflated." lol

Thank you for all the tips! I have lost a lot of weight in the last 2 years and the skin on my triceps area is sagging so to speak. It drives me crazy. I used to be a body builder and had amazing definition. I don't want that kind of definition at all at my age now, just want toned tight muscles without the loose skin there.

Loose skin is a pain. There aren't any arm exercises that will shrink skin, unfortunately. I think your options are waiting for it to shrink (as much as it will), surgery, or building muscle to "re-inflate" your arms. I don't know how much it will really help in the long run but I've heard good things about the lotions which firm up skin. That might help a tiny bit.
