So I'm going to try to increase my metabolism but eating more today. Sounds strange to say that!!!! I've had an apple with my breakfast and I've got some almonds for mid morning. What other low cal snacks does everyone else go for.

To all of you, do any of you actually take the time to read to support and advice given by this site, including how to increase your metabolism by increasing fruit and veg and eating little and often such as healthy snacking between meals, good fats such as nuts or are you just here to socialise. Someone pointed out how bad people must feel when they put themselves out there for help and no-one answers but I'd have rather you just didn't bother. Luckily I also posted on my home page and have a long list of ideas from there.
The part of your post in bold does not increase one's metabolism which is why you received the initial responses that you did.

There is energy involved in digesting food that is included in your TDEE - it's called the thermic effect of food. However, it does not matter what food you eat or how much you eat or how frequently you eat, TER is relatively always the same and is NOT something significant enough to be considering in the weight loss process. FOCUS ON A DEFICIT!0

Apples and almonds do not increase metabolism. For goodness sakes, if that where true then I'd be 60lbs because my metabolism would be super duper speedy
. if your referring to the mfp blog as to where you've seen this info on here, just know its notoriously wrong and hogwash. The same as the fitness magazines that say the same thing then write some contradiction the next month. Take what you read on the mfp with a grain of salt. Its nonsense written to try to gain more new members and is almost laughable sometimes.
You can't create a higher metabolism by eating certain foods. The body doesn't work that way. If you like apples and almonds , then eat them. But don't expect a higher metabolism because of it.0 -
Also op, you can't tell someone to get off your post. Its the internet. Sorry but you won't always get the replies you want. People on your wall might tell you what you want to hear, but here its more common that people will point out bad info . your post contained info that is wrong. People pointed it out. You are the only one being rude ( by saying get off my post ) people are just trying to let you know where your mistake was. Nobody here will give you a pat on the back for spewing bad info.0

There isn't enough evidence that eating small meals every 2-3hrs helps metabolism. You know what does? Eating less and exercising. Now if snacking makes this process easier (makes you less hungry, or hangry) then go for it. It will not increase your metabolism.
The only proven way to lose weight is to be at a deficient. That either means eat less food (doesn't matter what food, you could eat pizza all day and if you are in a deficient you'll lose weight), or exercise to create a deficient. Exercise gives you more calories and slightly increase your metabolism.
My advice? Peel that apple, slice it up and weigh it. Log the apple, by weight, in MFP and enjoy it. Same with the almonds. You CAN eat too much if you don't know how much you are actually eating.0 -
There isn't sufficient enough and statistacally significant research available to convince many of us that eating many small meals through the day helps one lose more weight than a calorie deficit alone. If you feel better and enjoy your food more having several light snacks rather than eating a single larger meal to feel full may work better for you.
There was a lot of focus indicating that metabolism or foods that increase metabolism were the key to weight loss over the past 2 decades. Some of it was absolute horse pucky. People just got fatter believing it.

If you've decreased your metabolism due to dieting (especially overly aggressive dieting) you can improve it by gradually (like 50-100 cal/week) increasing calories -- essentially a reverse diet. It doesn't have anything to do with eating apples or almonds or small snacks or meal timing at all, however.0

Well you see, your opening OP appeared as a statement of fact, nothing more nothing less. There's only three sentences with scant info other than an apple and almonds are going to increase your metabolism.
So my response was hoping for more information. You gave it. Albeit in a pretty angry manner.
As above, unless reverse dieting, increasing calories does not increase metabolism. Certain foods don't either. There's no science to back it up. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, including MFP blogs.0 -

Eating frequent and small meals has a negligible effect on metabolism in the grand scheme of things (I think that part of metabolism is through the thermic effect of food?). There's so many factors that go into metabolism that there's no way that little changes like meal frequency will hugely speed it up (the only way it helps with weight loss is if you find it easier to stick to your calorie and macro targets that way).
MFP's blog is a joke. Recently, I've wanted to throw my laptop out the window because of some of the hogwash they seem to promote. Eating "clean" does nothing for weight loss unless you eat fewer calories than you burn (eating "clean" may make it easier for a volume eater to create a calorie deficit, because most "clean" foods tend to be less calorie dense compared to, for example, a Big Mac; if you eat 500 calories above your maintenance every day for a week you will gain about a pound of weight, regardless if those extra 3500 calories were from kale or Big Macs).
The best way to up your metabolism is to exercise and strength train. Exercise, especially cardio, burns calories, while strength training builds muscle that would up your BMR (a pound of muscle burns slightly more calories than a pound of fat).0 -

This 100% . mfp blogs are just as bad as the fitness magazines. They are full of bad info and people fall into the trap of believing it. Its really a shame that mfp promotes those blogs because they are truly hogwash most of the time.0 -
Building muscle. Muscle burns calories faster than fat, even at rest.
I may be corrected by someone here who is more knowledgeable, but with all the reading I have done in the 3-1/2 years on MFP, this is the best way to increase calorie burn.0 -

Wow defensive much. You started off with the idea that you can increase your metabolism by changing the food you eat. You were asked to explain why you thought that was true. You could not. People on these forums are always keen to make sure people have the correct understanding about how weight loss works and gain sound knowledge, so they can make good decisions that will give them the best chance to be successful.
If you want to believe eating different foods enhances your metabolism then go right ahead, but you are misinformed and that's me being polite. Perhaps read the link provided by curlycockney and you will start to understand more about metabolism.0 -

More exercise is the best way to increase calorie burn, since muscle requires very little in terms of additional calories. It's better than nothing, and there are other reasons why muscle is a good thing, but it really adds very little to metabolism.

If you run at too deep of a deficit your body thinks you're starving and doesnt run properly. Its dangerous to deprive yourself too much. food is fuel. Thats why the app give a you a little pep talk to hit your calorie goals if you under-eat for the day and won't give you your predicted weight.
Im not a doctor or a nutritionist so I can't speak about superfoods or metabolism boosters specifically but its clear that an apple and a few nuts are going to be a better calorie source with way more nutrients for your body to thrive on than the same amount of calories in 3 french fries or a candy.

It never fails that those complaining about a lack of kindness are the very ones resorting to name calling and the rudest posts in a thread ... all while failing to comment on the topic at hand. Calling people "*kitten*" and "asshats" does not address that the OP will not increase her metabolism by eating an apple and some nuts because that isn't how the body works.0

So, you feel that I should just agree with the post when I know it's incorrect information and that the OP is going about things wrong? I should just let her believe that what she posted will work, when more than likely it will make her come back next week saying she gained 3lbs? I understand not being rude, but me disagreeing with her isn't being unsupportive. It's providing correct information so she doesn't go down a long road, with no results, because she's been misinformed.

Feel free to add your supportive advie then. All I saw was someone who appeared to have a complete misunderstanding of how weight loss and metabolism works. I merely asked her to explain why she believed what she did and then I would be able to explain why she was working on a misunderstanding.

Thank you to everyone who posted advise to support me, I don't understand about metabolism and calories would obviously not be my specialist subject on mastermind. I'm very new to this and I am still learning which is why I needed advice. I'm becoming increasing frustrated that the genuine people are being over shone by the kind of people who offered the initial four comments I got and it seems those are only interested in turning every post from someone who doesn't know what they are doing into an episode of Jeremy Kyle with comments of "Troll" or "are you serious". I wouldn't take these kind of comments from my friend in the real world so why would I take it from stranger just because they have anonymity. Called me a troll!!!!!!! For those of you who are concerned that I may have misunderstood the ideas behind increasing my metabolism, I am continuing to eat at a deficit and it's working so far. Thank you though, I appreciate it. I'll see how the snacking thing goes but I will bare in mind it's potentially not as it's suggested. Oh and I got the information about increasing my metabolism from the Blog section on this site.0

I can see why some people may have misconstrued your "nievity" for "Trollism". These boards are polluted with people coming on spreading mis-information, maliciously. The "seniors" here that have lot of experience in this and know what works, would really like to stop the mis-information. It's not good for "newbies", like yourself to be introduced to incorrect information right from the start. So, the people who asked if you were kidding, and called you a troll were just trying to figure out if you were serious or not, maybe in a not so nice way.
I'm sorry you got wrong info on the MFP blogs. Stick around here and read the Stickies on top of the message board pages. There are a ton of people here that have lost upwards of 100lbs by following these stickies.
Good luck. I hope you stick around and learn from the people who have tried and tested things over the years. There's a ton of good advice.

If you'd linked to the blog in your OP you'd probably have got the replies you got later on (that the blog is utter rubbish), whereas your current OP looks like you've just taken a random idea out of the air and treated it as fact, which is why people reacted the way they did. It is also ironic that you called out someone for a typo when you've put 'but' instead of 'by' in your OP.0
