sandwiches?

My typical choice is margarine or soft butter, depending on what I've got. Other choices are peanut butter, pesto sauce, Greek yogurt, and oil.0

avocado is very healthy for you where mayo isn't. If I don't keep my healthy fats at a certain daily level, then I really see it in my hair and skin.0

reduced fat mayo is around half the calories for an equal amount of regular mayo.0

I like to mix a little olive oil mayo and Dijon mustard; still gives the creaminess but cuts down on the cals.0

Typically I use OPA ranch dressing- it's yogurt based I think. Or I will use a mayo/mustard/onion mix. It is soooooo good with ham. And because of the mustard and onion I can use less mayo.0

I put a half serving of bolthouse farms Greek yogurt ranch dressing. A full serving is 45 calories. It's the only ranch I've found that doesn't have that diet taste

Take the bread slices. Weigh them.
Take a butter knife, spread a thin layer of mayo, return the rest of the mayo to the jar.
Weigh the slices again. Is it even a gram of mayo?
Personally I load my sandwiches with hot spicy mustard (http://www.loewensenf.de/sortiment/senf-klassiker/p/loewensenf-premium-extra-scharf.html)
tons of tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted zucchini mushrooms, leafy greens. Toppings are only limited by your sense of creativity and sense of adventure.0 -
I tend to eat a sandwich of some type for lunch - usually either ham or turkey. In order to keep the calories down I've been wanting to cut out the mayo, but cannot stand a dry sammie! Mustard is OK sometimes but really not something I WANT to eat.
What do you put on your sandwiches so they're not dry - if anything? Looking for tasty alternatives..
PS - can't do the low fat/no fat mayo either - that stuff is just awful! Thanks.
I am a huge mustard fan. I have all kinds of different ones in my fridge but my "go to" is a sweet hot mustard. I never use "cheap yellow mustard". I prefer dijon, coarse brown, Dusseldorf style, and when I want a real kick I use a horseradish mustard. If I am eating roast beef, I use a horseradish sauce.
Maybe try a few different ones and see if something trips your trigger.

Second the horseradish sauce, it is awesome on roast beef. Salsa or piccalilli for turkey, laughing cow French onion or apple butter for ham.0

I do replace the mayo in tuna salad with roasted garlic hummus.0 -
I use a stone or dijon mustard, low cal but very flavorful0

I agree with there being all kinds of mustard; I love horseradish mustard. And durkees (which I don't actually know what it is, but it's amazing).0

a wedge of laughing cow cheese is great on sandwiches and light on calories0

Wow! all these toppings sound good, my fav is avacado, dijon mustard, and if you still looking for more ideas I just started lemonaise...pretty good mayo alternative and they have flavors, I have the simple low fat version, but if you don't want low cal they have some other tasty looking options. http://www.gourmettrading.com/ojai-cook/0

grey poupon, honey dijon mustard, horseradish sauce, low cal italian dressing, any sort of vinegarette, avacado spread0

I'll put habanero jelly on my sandwich sometimes, I can make a turkey and cheese sandwich with habanero jelly that's under 250 calories and tastes great with the right ingredients.0

I'm like @standenvernet - I cut the bread. Bread is relatively low in nutritional value anyway, so I'm not missing anything. I say this as a pretty proficient bread baker... my family does miss my bread.
Instead of a sandwich if I'm packing a lunch I take something like a Ploughman's Lunch - I'm quite fond of turkey (or other meats) sausage like a kolbassa; add in some chunks of cheese, maybe some olives or pickles or pickled veg; I'd also have some non traditional items like some nuts or yogurt along with it. Sometimes a salad.
At home I'll quite often have a bread-less sandwich - 4 slices of sliced turkey + 1 slice of provolone or some other cheese = 140 calories with decent protein. Have two if you like and still about the same as a sandwich with bread. No mayo needed, not that I need an excuse to put some mayo on. I don't fear calories from mayo/fat.
