I don't think I'm any help, but I know how hard it is with low calories and binging etc. I have been fighting binge eating disorder for most of my life.

I'm 32, 167.5lbs and 4'11". I'm down from 253.5lbs in Jan. I eat about 1400kcal per day. Some days are more like 1300, and there was a day at 1700 in there somewhere. 1500 would probably be a pretty good spot for me.

When you say you are lightly active, how are you judging that? I have MFP and fitbit set to sedentary and I average 16,663 steps per day. My highest recent day was approx 30,000 steps and the lowest about 13,000.

I have to move a lot so I can eat more.

Hello everyone and thanks for all the advice given ... I really appreciate it
I've been using mfp for about 2 years now and i started very uneducated about all this
I used to always starve and think that thats the right way to do it , i would always start at 1000-1200 and after 1 hell of a bad week i would have a huge binge ...so no for sure i will not go to 1200 again , those days are over

After reading tons here i learned that eating more might be the key and i learned the hard way and believe it or not it took me a year and a half to have courage and start at maintnance which i though was 2100 so from there i lowered slowly to see whats the least i could do
I got to 1700 which is sometimes hard but ok
So i stayed there and the rest is what the discussikn topic is all about ...
I will try to go down to 1600 and see if it makes a difference , but im scared of going back to those days where i would be so hungry always and then get to one if those 3000 calorie binges :( i hate to even think of that
The plus side is that i never binge like i used to at 1700 thats why i think i can do 1500 but not less
I will try that to start with
But i wish i could see what people with my stats are eating at ...

I find that once I up my protein, I can easily eat under 1350 cal, and on most days, around 1200, simply because I'm no longer hungry and also to save calories for a couple of weekend meals.

    I am 5'1 and around 120 lbs.

    hello !
I've been eating 1700 calories for about 5 months now with no progress
I do religiously measure/weigh and count my calories prefectly , i was thinking in lowering my cals but im scared this will lead to failure as 1700 is already a litlle hard ...
I went to so many calorie calculators online they all tell me a whole different number !
    So depressed right now
Nithing is working , i bounce between 176/174 for years never under that
How many cals should i eat ?
    My stats :
    176lbs
    5'2
    28yo
    Female
    Ligtly active
Want to be 160 (is that too much to ask for? Lol )

I'm also 5'2, 180lb, and 26 years old. I started with 1400 calories a day. I have lost 10 pounds in 5 weeks. I can eat around 1600 calories a day to maintain my weight. I think you eat to many calories. Try to eat 200 less. We are similar in a age, weight, and hight so just try to eat a few hundred calories less and I'm sure you will start losing weight.

With your stats I think you should spend a few weeks at 1200 and see if that does anything. I know you say it will be hard, but it's going to be hard :)

1200 calories is to less, I think. She will be very hungry and way to much under her calories. I'm similar in age, hight, and weight and I started with 1400 calories a day.

MFP isn't the gold standard or only standard for calorie counting. She could spend a month at 1200 and see if it has an affect and it would not harm her.

If she's maintaining on 1700, 1500 or so would put her at just shy of 1/2 lb/wk lost on average...a perfectly healthy and reasonable rate for someone with only 16 lbs to lose.

Despite what some people seem to think...one doesn't have to completely starve themselves in order to lose weight. The winner is the person who can eat the MOST food he/she enjoys while meeting his/her health and fitness goals. Not the person who can make him/herself the most miserable and lose weight the quickest.

Ya, the bolded is my goal, and it makes using MFP a fun game.

At 5'3" and 187 lbs. I would not be losing at eating 1700 calories I am older, but am pretty active walking 4-5 miles a day and strength training 3 days a week. I eat between 1400 and 1600 to lose 1-1.5 lbs a week.

If you're losing 1 to 1.5 lbs a week eating between 1400 and 1600, of course you would still lose at 1700 calories -- just slower.
I should have specified that if I was not walking or strength training, I would not lose at 1700 calories. My rest day TDEE's have been 1489 to 1710 according to my fitbit. I would say eating at least 90 grams of protein and 30 grams of fiber a day help me to feel fuller. I also would add that aerobic activity like walking is a great appetite suppressant for me as well as the bonus of being to eat more and still lose weight.

1450 should translate to 0.5 lb/week, so you probably need to go that low if you want to lose. If you're struggling with satiety at your current intake, the standard advice to eat what you normally eat, just less, isn't going to work for you. You'll need to experiment with your macros and meal timing to figure òut what works for you. For me, it was 5 approx 200 calorie meals plus a 500 calorie dinner, but everyone is different.

Its just a math thing. Decide how you are going to create your deficit either by eating less(which you cnat seem to manage) or burn more, which means exercise.

Exercise is what gets me by, I exercise so I can eat more. You don't have to bust your butt at the gym, all I do is walk.... alot.

Yes, I was going to say something similar. Maybe try dropping calories really mildly (like 100) and increase activity during the day like by trying to walk more or do other forms of exercise that don't seem to make you hungry.

When my children were young, I had to be creative in ways to get exercise in. I put the youngest in a stroller or back/front pack, go to the park play area. The older kids would play on the equipment and I would walk around and around the play area while keeping an eye on them. I would take them all to my Church parking lot, bring ride on toys for the older kids and walk around and around the lot while they played. I found another Mom and we traded baby sitting just so we could work out. I also have paid a babysitter just so I could exercise. I know it is difficult especially if you are on a tight budget.

As hard as it is, it feels like wrangling kids should be exercise enough. Too bad it isn't really so! I liked to go and play at the park with my daughter. But that's easier with just one.
