Hello everyone I've been logging for a little while now and I just found out that there is a community aspect to this app haha. I'm not sure what to expect out of this journey because it all has to do with my willpower and strength (which are both challenged with carbs, French fries, and goat cheese) but I'm wishing for the best. It's nice to virtually meet you all & I hope everyone is having a good day/night. I'm happy to be here!!! Cheers

I think carbs are everyone's nightmare when trying to lose weight. They're for me lol. I eat between 100-150 carbs a day usually and still lose weight. You can add me as a friend if you want. I'm always looking for new friends0

The community has literally saved my motivation from dipping so i'd definitely suggest sticking around
We are all in the same boat and wanting the same things which can be a comfort -especially if, like me - you are surrounding by lean people eating whatever they want and not gaining weight (meanies!) You can do this!0 -
I love carbs. I don't think they're an enemy. Like everything, there are good and bad versions. Refined white flour basically acts like sugar in your body (not good), but wheat flour is better than that (and sweet potato fries made with olive oil are both tastier and healthier than their Idaho potato highly-processed cousins).

I've followed a low carb diet for the last year or so and am happy with the results. I usually eat 30-60 carbs a day with the occasional carby treat. This helps me control my appetite and maintain my weight. I suppose you could say my problem is lack of willpower as well. Sometimes I eat simply to be eating and there's absolutely no hope if there's dessert in the house even if it is relatively healthy. For me the trick has been figuring out how to work around my own specific issues (like making simple individual desserts so there are no leftovers) and making that work in my life. It's not easy but it can be done and I wish you luck in your journey. Add me if you'd like. I'm not here all the time but even if I stray for a bit I always come back!0

Nope. There are a lot of people around here who eat plenty of carbs daily and lose weight. It's just about being in a calorie deficit. Whether or not you feel better eating fewer carbs is an individual choice. Some people feel better eating low carbs and higher protein and fat; and others feel better eating higher carb and lower fat. But as long as the calorie deficit is there, weight will be lost. It's all about finding that sweet spot where you feel good, and most comfortable with your weight loss and maintenance journey.0 -

nope…I lost ten pounds on my last cut and I was eating about 200+ carbs a day …
carbs are just energy. They are not evil, bad, satan, the devil, etc, etc, ….

I love carbs so much that I dont allow myself to have more than 30g of carbs on most days, once in a while ill induldge. This is because when I limit my intake of carbs, I dont crave carbs like I normally would. I also de-bloat, I feel fuller longer, I show less cellulite, and I am less likely to binge eat because I have replaced the carbs with things like healthy fats and protein0

Yeah, carbs are often a problem. Personally I find controlling fat to be my biggest problem, especially carbs and fat together. Different things work for different people. Low carb, low fat, high fat, high fiber (me!). Play around with your diet until you find the way of eating that doesn't make losing weight a total nightmare.

there's nothing inherently wrong with carbs...they aren't the enemy...the human species as subsisted on a high carbohydrate diet for most of all time. the entire foundation of my diet consists largely of vegetables and some fruit, legumes and lentils, whole grains and starches from things like potatoes and corn...I easily lost 40 Lbs and I get an *kitten* load of micro nutrients and fiber. maintaining now for over two years without logging....
most people who eat the SAD could stand to moderate their carbohydrate intake in order to better balance out their diet...and more important could stand to make better choices in RE to what make up those carbohydrates...but in and of themselves, there's nothing wrong with carbs...it's just one of the three macro-nutrients.
I also find that identifying food or a group of foods as the "enemy" is counterproductive to healthy relationship with food.0 -

Carbs are not the enemy, eating too much of anything is the enemy. You need to find your balance. If that means cutting down on carbs, good for you. You should not have a love/hate relationship with food but figure out how to enjoy your food and still maintain a deficit to lose weight.
If you have trouble controlling yourself around certain foods, go ahead and eliminate or restrict them until you gain confidence and more self control. I have been at this for 20 months now and still have an issue with peanut butter and nuts. I keep them in a storage locker in my parking space or my car and only bring one serving at a time in when I want some and have pre-planned to eat some.
Yes, counting calories but still eating a variety of foods works. You just have to develop strategies to deal with your personal triggers.

I've found myself that I need to limit my carbs as well. Not because carbs are bad, but they don't stay with me as long as protein and fat so in order to stay within my calorie goals and not feel like I am starving to death all the time, I try to stick to 50-60 grams of carbs a day which allows for plenty of non-starchy veggies, some fruit and small amounts of grains while still allowing for plenty of protein and moderate amounts of fat to keep me satisfied.

Im on a keto diet once in a blue moon have some carbs for one day but basically high fat and high protein.0

Carbohydrates are awesome. They give me the energy I need for long bike rides and hikes. Plus they often taste really good, especially when mixed with fats.0

I think you will need to experiment and find what works best for your body. Reading through this thread you can see that people have had a wide variety of experiences with the carb eating/weight loss cycle. I, personally, had no success with weight loss until I cut carbs. Others can eat all they want and it's not an issue. You have to play around with your diet and find what works best for you personally. I would say if you want to cut carbs, cut the refined ones. Cut pasta, cut breads; they offer basically no nutritional value anyway. Also cut sugar. I know that sounds like an incredible challenge but it would do you a world of good for so many reasons. Start there but keep carbs that come from whole foods such as beans and vegetables. Adjust your macros to a lower carb percentage, but maybe not drastically in the beginning. Just see how it goes for two weeks, then tweak your carb intake accordingly.0
