ive been working out 6-7 times a week ( one hour of arch trainer or bike and yoga). And eat healthy
Breakfast 2 eggs and Ezekiel bread
Lunch sushi or rice steam veggies and protein
Supper salad and protein.
One day a week I will allow myself a cheat like two pieces of pizza or ice cream.
But in the 3 months I've been trying to get into shape I've actually gained 15 pounds!! Where am I going wrong?

You are eating more calories than you think. Use a food scale and weigh everything. After a while, you will figure out where the calories are coming from.

Pinkpoodle, if you open your diary you will get more detailed help.

If you gained 15lbs than your are most definitely eating more than you think, barring some kind of medical condition.

You said you're eating "healthy" but you can overeat those foods as well. You didn't say anything about being in a calorie deficit and that makes where weight loss comes from - not working out or eating certain foods.

I usually have a calorie deficit of at least 700 calories to 1200 per day. Maybe Its coming from eating too much sushi.

How are you measuring your deficit? Are you weighing all your food? How are you figuring your calories burned?

You are unlikely to be having that deficit. Barring some medical issue you are probably underestimating the amount of calories you are eating and overestimating the amount of calories you are burning.

I'm just using this program to tell me the calories I eat and calories burned.

I can't imagine I'm over eating (except on the cheat day). I'm literally hungry all the time. The biggest meal I eat is breakfast and that's two eggs and Ezekiel bread. And I don't think there is a way to over eat vegetables.

I took a look at your diary and in my opinion the problem lies there. You frequently list vegetables, but no condiment. Are you eating those plain or with oil or dressing? Oils and sauces are calorie dense and will quickly bump up your cals. You must weigh and measure everything. I assume there are other things you're missing and so are eating way more calories that you're logging--shooting yourself in the foot, so to speak. Start weighing and logging everything for a week or two and see how it goes. Wishing you good luck. B)

Another note--those eggs you're eating for breakfast, are they fried? There's no oil or butter listed. If they're hard boiled you're OK.

i see cups and pieces and generic entries. and sometimes that's all you can do when you eat out, but otherwise foods should be weighed in grams. a cup can weigh differently and greatly from person to person. was it smooshed in? flattened? heaping?
also steaks have different fat content. make sure you are tracking the right type

There is no condiment listed because I am eating them plain.

Ok I will have to buy a good scale. Maybe that is my issue. It's not exact.

Vegetables still have calories. Nutritious food has calories. I could easily eat 700 calories of sushi - that's about 4 serves of salmon nigiri off my local sushi train.

Logging isn't accurate unless you are weighing your food. Eyeballing and measuring cups are surprisingly inaccurate. I strongly suspect you're eating more than you think. The exercise burns MFP gives are also often quite inaccurate. Get an electronic food scale and start weighing your portions, you may be surprised.

I can't imagine gaining 15 pounds in 3 months with just marginal errors associated with not weighing your food. I could imagine that for someone whose weight isn't shifting at all, but a gain of 15 pounds? That would mean that you are eating an excess of 583 calories PER DAY. And you're saying you're at a deficit of at least 700 per day? That means you're off by over 1200 calories every day? Don't think so...

My opinion? Take your food logs (FOR EVERY DAY in the last 3 months) and export them into excel. Bring them to a doctor or nutritionist and explain what is going on. Seems like something else is at issue here...

Ok, I checked out your food log. I don't see three months worth of entries, and I also see some very splurge-y days in there. There are some days where you didn't eat anywhere near enough. Is it possible that you're bingeing and fasting? Is it possible that you're not being entirely honest with yourself about what you're eating?

My recommendation would be to go easy on yourself and set reasonable goals. Don't shoot for 700+ calorie deficit in a single day. Log every single thing and shoot for a moderate deficit of 250 calories a day. Don't binge and fast. Try to keep it consistent.

I see a lot of generic entries in your logging. If you're choosing entries that others have created for things like "low fat mac and cheese" or "nachos with cheese" or "rice with steamed vegetables," it's really just guessing. You have no idea how much cheese they're including in theirs -- my cup of vegetables and rice might be 60% vegetables, someone else might do 20% vegetables. Things like this can alter the calories a lot. If you're going to do things like nachos, it's better to log the chips and cheese separately so that you can be as accurate as possible.

There are always going to be times (like parties or eating out) where you will have to use your best guess, but if you can limit guessing to when it is absolutely necessary, your logging will be much more useful to you.

Sushi has a lot of calories. Eating 6 pieces alone is almost 1 cup of rice and they use rice vinegar (which has some sugar in it) and throw in the fish and it's easy to eat 500-600 calories. I easily eat about 1000 calories in sushi.
