Tuna question

Is tuna in water a good protein? I have two 2.5 oz. packets of tuna in water with 60 cals and 13g protein each and wondered if it's okay to eat two.

IMO the tuna is fine, its all the stuff we doctor up the tuna with. Mainly mayo and eggs can set the #s pretty high.

I buy my tuna at Costco and usually eat the whole 7 ounce tin in one meal. Plain tuna is a great low calorie source of protein. Enjoy!

After a run I like to lightly fry a can of tuna in a pan with diced onions, crack a few eggs over it, then drizzle a generous amount of sriracha sauce on the top after it's done cooking. Looks like hell but tastes wonderful.

I limit my tuna with its mercury content but tuna in water is a good protein source. I add to my mix of options and have it here and there.

One of my favorites is to add drained tuna to whole wheat pasta with diced veggies and light mayo. Filling. Has both the fiber and protein. =)

I couldn't eat it daily myself as I like mixing things up. I do know the mercury content is quite high but maybe someone else can elaborate on the ins and outs of that.

    Eating Tuna Safely

This table provides guidelines on how much canned tuna it is safe to eat, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. While mercury poses the most serious health threat to children and women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, others may also wish to use this list as a guide.

If you weigh: Don't eat more than one can every:

I EAT A CAN OF TUNA EVERYDAY AND A POUND OF SHRIMP EVERY WEEK Damm cap locks!! sorry. My mercury levels are fine. I would never ever use a GoV agency as a source for accurate nutrition info.

The regular tuna has a lot less mercury than the albacore...and tastes better, IMO.

Tuna is a low-cal, yummy and healthy way to get protein in. Tuna drowning in mayo is less healthy, lol, but tuna is fairly versatile and can be prepared in many healthy ways. Plus, it's pretty good all by it's little old lonesome! Plop some on a rice cake and you have a stupid-easy, super-fast, pretty tasty snack! Not the kind of thing you'd want to eat every day, but not bad if you're in a hurry or just want to use up what's left of the tuna. :)

Tuna is great. I eat it with either mustard or light mayo. I also grill tuna and cheese toasties with tomato Ketchup. It's great mixed with pasta or straight out of the tin on poverty days. Tuna is low calorie, great protein and high in Omegas 3 & 6. My cat also eats it and she's a champion.

Yes on the cat thing. My cat is a freaking tuna fiend.

If I'm making a recipe, I make sure I get an extra can so that I can giver some. Otherwise, up on the counter she will be, thinking she's all sly and clever and that I won't notice her coming in to grab some. I'll have to move her 10,000 times if I don't give her some for herself.

She is in good shape, though! :)

I usually eat 3-4 cans a week as well - from what I read (yes, I know - I read it - I'm not saying it's gospel lol) the tuna used in a lot of canning are young smaller tuna that don't live long enough to absorb enough mercury to affect us - the older much larger tuna that you see sport fisherman getting and in fish tournaments would contain more. I've never had a mercury test but from the many many years I've been sucking it down - never a problem. Wife hates that I eat it so much but I just love it - friend of mine had me mix it with salsa once - was good - but homemade salsa would be better - jar is loaded with sodium.

I like to make a tuna salad with a little bit of mayo and sauerkraut, then slice cucumbers to act as "crackers" and eat my tuna like that...Super delicious! The crunchy cucumbers really feel like I'm eating crackers. I have this for my lunch once a week! I love the idea of eggs and siracha though...

I make a tuna salad with half and half Greek yogurt and Miracle Whip and take celery stalks to "scoop" it out of the bowl. Otherwise, I'll add diced cucumbers to it and eat it with a fork. I like your idea, too!
