How long does it take to get into ketosis?

My sister decided to go keto and I decided to do a couple of weeks for support and to shake up the routine. It reminded me of when I did it a couple of years ago and how extremely hungry I got back then too. It's my 4rth day and I'm starving... I just can't get full.. I'm doing everything right apparently, under 25 net carbs most from the small amount of vegetables I'm allowed (which is a bit hard for me since I'm used to consuming at least 5 pounds of them), I'm also staying under 100 g protein and consume at last 75% fat + lots and lots of water. The thing is I don't ever feel full no matter what I eat. I'm trying to keep it under 1700 calories (250 deficit) and succeeding, but only through sheer will battling constant hunger. When is the keto "switch" that makes a person not hungry supposed to switch?

Varies by the person. The first week I'm usually hungrier than usual as my body fights the process. Sometimes I've gone through the extra hungries for almost two weeks, gorging on steak and roast beef. Never did me any harm. I'd just go with it if I were you and eat whatever meat you want until you're full. If eggs don't give you any issues I do find those cut my appetite more than meat, so you can try those, too.

For me it was 4 days. Its working like a charm. the only complaint that I have is that I am BORED out of my mind with the food choices. This is a wonderful plan but be prepared for the bland diet as well. Good luck to you and your sister. <3

If you are starving and not get the benefits of reduced cravings, keto may not be for you. For me, if I eat carbs, especially processed, I crave nonstop and cannot get full. You may be the opposite and need carbs to satisfy yourself. Try it a few more days and if it doesn't get better, ditch it! Good luck!

Seems like your protein intake is pretty low, as well. I wasn't hungry at ALL as I started my Keto, I was on it about 10 days and experienced little to no hunger.

I can have eggs but only once every few days and no more than 2 because I'm mildly allergic, as for meat I don't like it, I'm mostly doing fish, chicken and cheese. Eggs do suppress my appetite, by making me slightly nauseous, but my stomach still growls. I guess I'm going to wait it out for a week or until my sister is no longer grumpy (so she doesn't feel alone in this) then go back to my good old normal way of eating.

I hear you! That's why I'm not planning to do this long term.

You may be right because all the foods I usually use to effectively stop being hungry when I am are too high carb to work on keto (grains, potatoes, oatmeal, apples..etc), and because I'm motivated by volume which is hard to achieve on keto.

My protein intake is actually nearly twice my usual intake (it's around 80-100 g now when it's usually 40-80g). I think it may be just an individual thing because the diet I usually thrive on is very high in carbs so when you take them away it's a complete shift in eating. I mean it may be psychological because I can't eat most of what I consider "main food" and what I'm currently using I usually consider an "add on". Or maybe I just have too much glycogen to burn because I have not worked out since I started.

It usually took me 5 days. But that time I didn't restrict calorie intake very much. If you would like to accelerate it, do a lot of cardio to get rid of glycogen sooner. Intervals are best in this case.

3 weeks. Your protein seems high. Shoot for .7 to .8 grams a day per pound of LEAN BODY MASS.

I'm a fairly heavy person, so my LBM is likely high.. so you think I should reduce my protein even further? It sounds a bit counter-intuitive since I'm having enough trouble with the lack of volume as is.. well, I'm gonna try regardless.
