I like it thick and sticky too. I am pretty obsessed with oatmeal in all forms.

only like one type of oatmeal, homemade butterscotch oatmeal on the creamy side (neither soupy or lumpy)

Please tell me how to make butterscotch oatmeal! That sounds amazing!

Thick but smooth so I can turn my fruit over in it easily. I use exactly 160ml of soy milk with 1 sachet of instant oatmeal and I think that lands me at just before paste on the scale.

When I ate oatmeal, I wanted a paste. If it didn't stick to the spoon when I waved it around, it was too runny.

Definitely this. Could have wallpapered the house with it the way I ate it.

Soupy with lumps all the way. The more milk added after it's cooked the better.
I make mine first, then pour milk on it and break it up so that it's more like hot cereal.
Soggy hot cereal (it is still oatmeal, after all).

Yes. And I prefer some chew to the oats, so I like steel cut best.

Steel cut has been highly marketed but all it is, is rolled oats cut up into bits, sold at a higher price.

Just get rolled oats. Bob's Red Mill is the brand I buy.

I have rolled oats. I use them in recipes that call for them. I prefer rolled oats in baked oatmeal, for granola, basically anything other than regular oatmeal. Steel cut has a tendency to stay too hard in those dishes. The steel cut oats I buy are groats cut into bits, not groats steamed and rolled flat and then cut into bits.

I honestly don't care about the marketing, degree of processing, amount of fiber, yada, yada. I only care because I like the extra chew.

Um, no. Steel cut is not the same as rolled oats. Just like old fashioned and quick oats aren't the same. Yes, all oats but all different levels of processing which affects the flavor, texture, and nutritional profile.

They are essentially the same thing (minus the texture fact the above poster presented). The same nutritionally speaking, too.

If you take a groat, steam it to make it pliable, and roll it (without cutting it) then you have a rolled oat.

Neither. I like mine "just right" ( ;) ). Thick rolled oats, not instant or otherwise manipulated. But cooked, not soaked - don't like raw oats' flavor. And with greek yogurt, berries, cinnamon (lots), and walnuts. All these mixed together are still thick enough to stay on the spoon (reasonable spoonfuls!) in a vaguely pudding-like consistency, but with some texture in it. So satisfying, and a great comfort food!

Thick, chewy, lumpy, non-instant with butter and chia seeds.
Just logged this to eat on Saturday

Steel cut, made with almond milk and peanut butter (yum!), rich, creamy and decidedly lumpy.

I like mine lumpy. Don't like oatmeal that I can't "chew" a little bit.

Yeah.. really good. Unfortunately I can't have it often because I like it with lots of sugar and butter...

Thick, and I prefer savory oats over sweet. Make with unsalted chicken stock instead of milk or water, savory seasonings and with an over easy egg and sprinkle of cheese on top. Mmm mmm.

BTW, I don't eat oatmeal in the morning (I usually skip breakfast), but have it as a snack in the afternoon before my evening training shift.

I am so glad to hear this because I thought I was crazy. It's one of my favorite afternoon snacks!
