I have been down this road with counting calories. Ive lost weight fasting... Ive lost weight starving days on end (younger) it seems to be the easy way for me to lose then I dont have to be accountable for any food.. Well I KNOW now that not the way to lose weight for so many reasons..

I have lost 9 pounds in 5 weeks.. with the first two weeks not losing an ounce .. then all of a sudden I was losing half a pound a day. So thrilled!!!!! Today when I scaled I gained 2.8 pounds!! I count every calorie... every spice and stayed within my goal given and once a week or so...a bit over..100 calories.. I also IF for 12-16 hours a day.

We had chili last night and Im wondering if the sodium in chili could be the culprit? I ate within the 1200 calories aloted. I only have 21 pounds to go... well.... 23 now. ugh!!!!!!!!

When I weigh in on Friday, and if there is another gain.. im going to feel like giving up. I already do today.

Discouraged.

Nobody has an actual weight. You have a weight range, and you will fluctuate within that range on a daily basis. Ain't nothing you can do about it -- that's just how bodies work. You need to look at the overall trend, not just a single data point, or you'll drive yourself insane.

Where are you in your menstrual cycle? I spike at ovulation and again right before it starts.

I understand where you are coming from. I went out for Mexican food Friday night and had Chinese yesterday. The sodium is killing me. Drinking lots of water and eating very low sodium for the next couple of days and things will be back on track.

I was up 3 pounds this weekend due to the pizza I ate two days in a row. I didn't gain 3 pounds because I ate too much pizza, it's that the pizza was heavy on the sodium and I held onto some water. Now, my monthly annoyance has come along, and I'm up yet another 2, appearing as if I have gained 5 pounds in 3 days.

I have eaten under my calories, even with the pizza, so it's not weight, it's water. It will go away. Giving up would be silly!

Eh. Give it a few days. You're doing great. I on the other hand have been a deficit for 5 weeks and have lost nothing.

Use www.weightgrapher.com/www.trendweight.com/happy scale for iphone/libra for android.

Stop relying on single data points. Even a week apart. Even a month apart. SINGLE DATA POINTS ARE BAD.

Look at your TREND, not a single number.

You pee. You poo. Your floor is uneven. Your scale's battery is off. You retain water because of exercise, menstrual cycle, glycogen replenishment, and because the stars decree that you do so.

Or you can continue to drive yourself insane every time a number do not conform to your expectations.

    Your choice!

Lol...I don't anymore. But I remember the dreaded the fluctuations.

It's water weight and/or possible higher glycogen storage if your carb level was lower than last night.

Thank you. I will do just that! Lots of water and lower the sodium for a few days.

Your weight will fluctuate as all have mentioned above.
With only 20-23lb to lose look for a trend of .5-1 lb loss a week.

    Cheers, h.

As mentioned above, your weight will fluctuate (especially if you are weighing daily)!
You stayed within your calorie range and what you ate to get to that doesn't really make a difference! If you generally don't have a good relationship with the scale, I'd say weigh weekly. Sometimes those fluctuations can be hard to swallow if you aren't used to them. You're doing great :)

As I explain in detail in my philosophy of weight loss post, you really need to use a trending graph if you're going to freak out about ups and downs in your weight. It'll really show you a much better approximation of your progress than what's coming out of your scale.

Yeah it's probably the sodium. We had Chinese food Sunday night and even though I didn't overeat, I gained 2 lbs overnight. But it was gone the next day.
